We went to the grocery store yesterday and were looking for dixie cups because we had run out. We saw the disney ones, and my DD said - let's get these to prepare for Disney! When we got home she said I have an idea - let's count out 39 cups (number of days till we leave) and each night after we brush our teeth, we can throw it away and when there are no cups left, we get to go to Disney! I thought it was a great idea, and a good visual tool for DS (4) - as well as an easy way to remember to brush our teeth every night!

What creative countdown methods have you used?

That's a cute idea!

Now that we're less that a month, we made a calender and decorated it with stickers and are marking off every day.:jester:

Hi.. we did the paper chain... we started with 65 paper links... and we tear one off a day.

It was kind of neat as our second floor hallway looks down into the living room... we hung the chain from up there and it touched the living room floor..... a month later it ended at about eye level and at 20 days we had to take links off from upstairs as we cold not reach it anymore from the living room...

Now we have 5 links left :p

>>^..^<<

We made a tear off a day type thing... It says in WDW Script..

Walt Disney World

a clip art picture of any character 10 (or whatever number days)

Days to Go!

We too did the paper chain. I just cut up plain paper into strips and let the kids paint them one day. We started at about 50 days, and are now down to 11 more rings. On our final ring I, of course had to make a Hidden Mickey, LOL!
I like the cup idea too.

...And I don't have kids!!! But I'm the biggest 49 year old kid you'll ever meet!!!!!! Now,where can I find a package of 320
paper cups........

airhead(just wanna be there....)

Airhead I am with you!! My husband and I look forward to a trip to the world as much as the kids. Let me know if you find 320 to a package!!! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc

We did a paper chain with regular construction paper and to signify a week we used mickey scrapbooking paper. We started 120 days out:p Now only 38 more days to go:bounce:

We made a poster and put those small post-it tabs numbered 100 - 1. Each 30 days was in a different color with the last 10 days in another color. My five year olds love it and can't wait to take off another number each day. We're down to 12 days! (or as they say, "Only 2 more days until we're on the BLUE numbers!") YIPPEEE! (Decorated with Disney stickers and characters. My DD criticized my DS when he put his favorite Peanuts stickers on it, claiming "There are no Charlie Brown characters in Disney!" :p  )

We had the kids color pictures on construction paper of the fun stuff they associated with on vacation - like getting ice cream, riding rides, Mom getting sunburned...;) I cut the paper into strips to make a chain.

We also used those Disney Happy Meal toys from last year's promotions. We counted out one for each day and then put them on an empty sofa table in the living room. We ran the paper chain around the characters.

Each day we took off a toy and a paper link. The last night we had one link and Fantasia Mickey left. It was fun!

Hi we have done the paper chain thing too.. We each wrote a word or two about what we like to do on vacation ( they didn't know it was a disney vacation ) and on the last one I wrote " when we get to the airport you will have a big Surprise " that is when they found out about DISNEY .. I have also done a poster and every day they glued on a new character - and when their baggie of characters were gone it was time to leave .. I am not sure what we will do for this trip .. Counting down is fun for all ages ! Michelle

We are doing the countdown links too.

I posted this link for FREE countdain chain links on the Family board yesterday, but I'll post it here too.

They are so cute, and free is good.
There are other downloads like kids journals and activitiy pages to keep the kiddos buys in the car and plane.

I love the dixie cup idea too.
