Well, now that that's out of system... Tastycake is a Phila-based company that makes an assortment of baked goods including 1-serving, log-like pies, round, chocolate hockey-puc- like cakes (thus the above comparison?), filled with creme or peanut butter, chocolate cupcakes, and butterscotch krimpets. We're not talking gourmet here, but they have a signature taste that most folk find appealing. And as you can tell from the above responses the memory of them tends to stick for a lifetime, so once you've had them, you never forget them!

Thank you Angel! We're deep into the packing as we "speak," the kids just left for school - we're pulling them out an hour early - then it's down to Phila international and our flight to Orlando. With any luck we'll pull up to the lodge, for the very first time, at about 8:30 this evening!

Viki - Don is fantastic as are the two ladies who work in IPO. They love items to eat. Perhaps a muffin basket or cookies, maybe some chocolates. Do you have a fantastic food item from your home town/state? That would make a great gift that all would enjoy.

This is a good idea! We live in New England so we brought boxes of locally-made maple syrup candy down to the concierge CMs at the Wilderness Lodge and the Polynesian. We also brought some for Jeffrey in the IPO office because he was very helpful with our pre-trip plans.

Regarding Tastycakes: I HATE butterscotch but I LOVE Butterscotch Krimpets!!! Mmmm!!!

Hi experts

I have a question about arrival at the GF.

I have read reports of guests being greeted outside the main building by concierge staff when they arrived at the GF. (I am not sure of their mode of transportation)

I assume that the hotel was contacted by the transportation company and told that the 'X party was arriving for their RPC stay.'

Since we are renting a car at MCO, do I need to tell concierge about what time we will be arriving, call them on the way from MCO or just tell bell services when we arrive?

I don't want to look like the Griswald's in the ole' family truckster without a clue what to do or expect.

Several years ago at the Poly we had to wait a bit after telling bell services that we were staying in the Hawaii building. It was awkward waiting around with our pile of luggage. I just don't want to feel that way again.

Hi Angel! It's me...DF. I laughed when I read your post, and had to offer the link along with all the wonderful descriptions from others! You are able to ORDER any of the cakes directly from their website (even limited edition collections, etc). So, if you are "hankering" to try them, or merely miss them (because you devoured them during childhood...but have since moved), here's a little holiday cheer! I'm sure your children would enjoy opening a package with you, and tasting a bit of "mommy's" childhood!! Can't think of a better surprise for tired little school girls/boys.

Hi Garada, I'll try to help. It's not a guarantee that you'll be greeted exactly when you drive up, it all depends on how busy they are with other check-ins. Typically, when you arrive at the security gate at the GF and give them your name, that's when the phone call is made for the concierge greeter. Usually by the time you pull up to the port cochere and unload your luggage, someone will be arriving to greet you. One time they didn't have anyone available, so we did go into the main registration area. We only waited a few minutes for someone to come down and get us.

You'll usually be contacted by the Itinerary Planning Office 7 days prior to your vacation. One of the questions they confirm with you is arrival time and method.

When you drive through the Security Kiosk, just let them know you are checking into Concierge. They will give you a special parking pass. When you stop at the Valet area, the valets will take your luggage, and a Concierge cast member will greet you and take you up to the Royal Palm Club (or Sugar Loaf) to check in.

In the event that there is not a concierge cast member outside to greet you (possible if there are many guests arriving at once...) just let the Valet know you are staying in Concierge, and they will get someone for you real quick.

I'm only on page 19 (and intend to read the entire thread when I have time). This thread is very informative, especially for first time concierge goers like ourselves.. the first page alone helped a lot! I have booked with DU but decided to email the IPO anyway. All we had was a room request- and wanted to make sure it atleast WAS requested, even though we know it's not guarantee we'll get it- and asked for more SPECIFIC information about the water/marina activities at GF. I also wanted to make sure we did have the ADR for 1900 Park fare on the night of our arrival- it's a short stay.. it's not like we can try for another day later on if that wasn't confirmed.

The advice to contact them was right on the money- I wrote them in the middle of the night and they responded at 10am cst! That's pretty fast... VERY fast.. IMO. (considering I haven't heard back from DU consultant since I paid the deposit with them on Jan 7th.... but that's another story LOL)

Anywho... I just wanted to say thanks for the tip to contact IPO directly even if you've booked with a travel agent... but also wanted to ask- how do you all seem to know the NAMES of the people you are contacting with IPO? Is it because you talk to them on the phone? The IPO contacted us back very quickly, and very thoroughly too I might add (with the info we wanted, confirmed ADR, etc.) -- but they didn't sign their email. It was signed hope you have a Grand day and a dancing chicken little there. LOL It had the IPO phone/email information underneath that. I emailed back thanking him/her for the information but I didn't even know how to address them in the email... since no name was given. Is that normal when you contact them by email? Wondering what the secrecy is with the no name thing and if that means we'll have a less "personal" relationship with our IPO if we aren't even privvy to their name. I mean I can't even say well "so and so" confirmed this or that- or took our room request (not that we expect it as a guarantee but like if they said we made no room request at all- or something of that nature) - I don't know their name! And I can't print out the email either because it's in html with lots of designs at the top (disney ofcourse) and the chicken little gif.

The IPO departments work as a team. Some of them sign their names, others do not. Personally, I also like having a name to go along with the message. If you'd prefer, you can call them instead of e-mailing and talk to a live person.

I was looking at a garden view room. How are the views in this category?

I like concierge for the lounge & coffee all day. My dh and I wake up about 6:30. So we go to the lounge while my 2 DD sleep. I give them until about 8:00 before I go in make noises.
The breakfast is enough to start our day.
