Say I purchased a resale with an October UY and wanted to vacation every November(the 1st or 2nd week); would I have to book that October or could I book when the 11 month window opens?

Ex. I have an Oct. UY and want to book Nov. 6 to 12 2011. Could I book now or would I have to wait until October?

You can always book 11 months in advance of your checkin date at your home resort (7 months at other resorts) regardless of your use year.

UY is simply when points for that become current UY points. As PP mentioned, you can always book 11 months in advance.

When deciding what points you can use for your vacations, it is based on the time of travel and not the time of the call.

So, as long as the points you want to use will be available when your trip happens, you will be fine.

An Oct UY is a good one for those November trips too!

Understanding Use Year - Updated 1/31/2010

Briefly -

You can always book 11 months prior with home resort points and 7 months prior with non-home resort points. Use year is not relevant for WHEN you can call to reserve.

Use year determines which points you use to book the stay.

So to figure out where the points may come from first figure out which use year includes your vacation dates.

October use years run 10/1 thru the following 9/30.

Ex: A November 2011 vacation falls within your 2011 use year (10/1/2011 - 9/30/2012).

So for a November 2011 vacation, you would use points from the 2011 use year. Or you could use points you banked from 2010 into 2011. Or you could borrow points from your 2012 use year.

Ex: A July 2011 vacation falls within your 2010 use year (10/31/2010 - 9/30/2011).

So for a July 2011 vacation, you would use points from the 2010 use year. Or you could use points you banked from 2009 into 2010. Or you could borrow points from your 2011 use year.

And you just have to have points available to make that reservation. So if you used all your 2011 points and had none banked or none to borrow, you wouldn't be able to make a reservation.
