If we wanted to take trips in Jan./Feb. (pref. Jan.) what would the ideal UY be for us?

I'm thinking Dec. - is that right? Thanks

Hi Wendy,
I would think December would be a great one, but honestly once you are a member and have your points to us our use year hasn't been a factor. We have all the points we need for one major trip in the summer and off season trips and you can borrow into future use years if you need more points. Good luck with your decision!

Hey Lesley - Just spoke to Derek earlier today - was trying to get it all figured out before we call him back. AND, YES, he knew who you were - Thanks!!! :goodvibes

Yes, Wendy. December would be a good use year for you. If you ever need to cancel a Jan. or Feb. vacation, you would have lots of time to either rebook or to bank your points. When we bought we never considered use year and we never had to cancel, so it didn't matter. But in recent years we have had to cancel a number of times and use year has mattered. You are wise to think of use year, just in case.

Yep, December would be great if you always plan to travel early in the calendar year. We bought December points thinking we would always travel in the spring, then we discovered the Food & Wine festival and now we always book an Oct/Nov trip, so using our December points takes a little more planning.

...and that is where you have to guess your future preferences/stays. an October UY would also work well for Jan/Feb (can stil bank unused points until June) and give you the flexibilty to make a fall stay. (as long as you think you'd never make a summer stay - if you think Summer is more likely for your future use than the fall, stick with December.)

We sometimes travel in the fall, and sometimes take a January or February trip. We figured spring was less likely, and summer a definite possibility (sounds wishy-washy to me too). Based on this, we decided on June.

We have until the end of January to bank - so we can make up our mind late about taking a bonus trip before banking.

We can take a spring trip to use any holding points if we have to cancel a trip last minute.

As long as we don't plan to travel in May, we can always do something with the points.

Since you're not as concerned with summer and fall trips, the december votes might be better for you, but just a thought.

The issue is one of: if you have to cancel can you still bank? A number of use year months serve that purpose for Jan/Feb usual trips (anything from August to December would easily do so) and December is an ideal one. At the same time understand that Dec does not serve that purpose for trips during Sep through Nov if you think you might ultimately switch to usually going those months.
