Use year strategy?

Right now, I am looking at DVC membership and I have a few more questions regarding Use year.

I generally like to go to Disney last week of August what is the best month for use year?

Since it is a low season for attendance is it necessary that I have my use year exactly 11months or should I request something with a more desirable use year incase my needs change?

Use Year has NOTHING to do with when you can book your ressies. I have a DEC U/Y and booked my August trip of next year couple of weeks ago and used 2007 points for this even when though I haven't even gotten to my DEC 06 U/Y yet.

U/Y is important for when you have to cancel a trip and also for deadlines on banking points.

Hypothetically, If I have to cancel a trip and want to bank points I guess I need a U/Y of May or if I have no problems in getting time off and my Vacation days are set in stone then I should select U/Y in september because that is 11 months out.

If I want to resell my timeshare in the future maybe I might want an August or January U/Y so whoever want to buy it through a resale can book on 4 july or christmas week. Thats all thats going through my head right now. Is there a U/Y that has historically been 1st to become unavailable from the DVC resorts.

If you usually vacation in August then September would be the worst U/Y to have . Lets say you book Aug 25 ,2007 to August 31 ,2007 using all your points You book this in October of 06 ( right now ) Come May5 you find out you have to cancel your trip well U/Y comes into play because of banking deadlines I believe Feb would be month for 100% banking of points and May is only 25% of your points. IF you don not use the other 75% of your points by Aug 31 , 07 you lose them.


The 11 months has nothing to do with making your reservation in regard to your USE/YEAR .

It's 11 months from the day of your checkout date for the trip you can make the ressie regardless of what U/Y you have.

For Aug trips pick a U/Y just before like a June year .
