I'm really just double checking that I'm using Use Year the way everyone else does.

The 2007 Use Year, started with January 2007 correct? So when people talk about 2007 UY they mean the points you get in calendar year 2007 to use in 2007-08; not the points you get in 2006 for in 2006-07.

So with a DAKV contract with a Sept UY, I won't see any points on dvcmembers.com till Sept 1, 2007.

Use year is really a "use month". Your use year is when your points renew. If you have a September use year at AKV, your '07 points will be ready to use for any reservation from September 1, 2007 to August 31, 2008.

Now, as for DVCmember.com....Your points will show up there as soon as you purchase, but they will be listed by use year. i.e. click on 2007 under your AKV contract, and it will show points available for reservations that occur between September 1, 2007 and August 31, 2008. When you make a reservation (for those who own AKV, that first date is May 16), you will be making it for a date that occurs AFTER September 1, 2007 when those points will be active.

The only thing that happens in the calendar year with DVC is that your dues are due in January. Everything else is based on your use year.

There are 8 Use Year months: Feb, Mar, Apr, Jun, Aug, Sep, Oct and Dec. So the people who own contracts with Feb or Mar Use Years are currently in their 2007 Use Year. For the rest of us (who own contracts with UY months of Apr - Dec UYs), we're still in our 2006 Use Year.

The start of your UY is when your points renew each year but technically they don't "drop" into your account on that day, they are already there. It's just a question of the dates that each set of points can be used to book a stay. AKV doesn't have a 2006 UY -- it starts with the 2007 UY. As Diane explained, you should see your 2007 points in your account. You should also see your 2008 points and I think the 2009 UY points are also displayed.

They show you the points a few Use Years ahead because you could be in your 2006 UY, making a reservation that will take place during your 2007 UY and borrowing points from your 2008 UY for that reservation. For cruises, I think you can borrow two UYs ahead. So the website shows you the points for the next 3-4 UYs.

In our state, and perhaps others, the license plate for our car goes from July to July each year. (It's based on the spelling of our last name). This is done so everyone isn't getting new plates all at once, but staggers it throughout the year.

DVC's use year is similar. Owners have a use year month which describes the 12 month time period for using their particular points. We have a June use year month, so for us, our use years look like this:

Use Year...Vacation Dates
2006....June 1, 2006 thru May 31, 2007
2007....June 1, 2007 thru May 31, 2008
2008....June 1, 2008 thru May 31, 2009
etc.

A similar chart could be made for any of the other 7 different use year months DVC uses.

So as LisaS said, we're still currently in our 2006 Use Year. But somebody with a February Use Year month would already be into their 2007 Use Year. So if I were taking a vacation this month, we'd be using 2006 UY points. If I take a vacation in July, that would be 2007UY points.

Hope this helps.
