Use year question

We are thinking of buying a BWV re-sale, but have a few questions. The use year for this is Oct. As I understand it, 150 points become available Oct 2004 and expire Sept 2005. We like to visit WDW in Dec. Would we be able to book Dec 2005 (and future years) with the current points at the 11 month window, or do we have to do some type of banking/ borrowing transaction?
Thanks in advance, Murphy

The 150 points that become available Oct. 1, 2004, would have to be used by Sept. 30, 2005 UNLESS you bank them into the next Use Year. If you bank them, you could then use them in Dec. 2005. Since you would be booking your trip at the 11 month window, or Jan. 2005, and your deadline to bank 100% of your points would be the end of March, you could bank all of those points and use them in Dec. 05 or just bank some of them and keep the rest to use before Sept. 30.

You will need to bank the 2004 points if you want to use them for a stay between 10/1/2005 and 9/30/2006.

Make yourself a chart like this:

2004 use year points go into my account on 10/1/2004.
They are good for a stay between 10/1/2004 and 9/30/2005.

2005 use year points go into my account on 10/1/2005.
They are good for a stay between 10/1/2005 and 9/30/2006.

2006 use year points go into my account on 10/1/2006.
They are good for a stay between 10/1/2006 and 9/30/2007.

etc.

Use year has nothing to do with when you call to make the reservation. That is always 11 months (or less) ahead of your desired check out date for your home resort and 7 months (or less) ahead of your desired check out date for a non-home resort.

Points do not have to be in your account when you make the reservation. They only need to be there when you arrive.

The dates of your stay determine which year's points you use.

If you have an October use year, a December 2005 stay would fall inside your 2005 use year. You need to use points that are valid during your 2005 use year for that stay.

So, that means you could:

* use 2005 use year points and/or
* use points from your 2004 use year if you banked them in time and/or
* borrow 2006 use year points.

HTH.

Best wishes and good luck with the resale!

Thanks for the fast replies! I have one other question which I think was already answered. If this were to go thru in the next couple of weeks, could I make a reservation for this Dec (I know this would be a long shot of course!) in July to use the Oct 2004 points, even tho they aren't avail until Oct?
Thanks again Murphy

I don't believe you will be able to make your reservation until you receive the points in October...

Yes. If there is availability, you can call as soon as you are in the MS system to make that December 2004 reservation.

Just so you know, if you want to stay before 10/1/2004, you could do that, too. You'd just have to borrow those 2004 points when you make the reservation. Obviously, reservations are always subject to availability. And again, you'd have to close on the resale and be in the MS computer system before you can make any reservations.

Bottom Line: If there is availability for this December, you can make the reservation as soon as MS has you in the system. Doesn't matter that the points will not be in your account until 10/1/2004. They will be there before you arrive.

Thanks for setting me straight on this! I didn't read the OP's last question quite right...

Don't worry about it - happens to all of us!

Best wishes -

As indicated, use year has nothing to do with when you can make reservations. As long as the points will be available at the time of the stay, you can make reservations 11 months in advance for your home resort and 7 months in advance for any other resort.

And since you're within the 7 month window for December, you are correct in that there will be a lot of booking already done for that time. But if you're flexible with resort choice, and even room type, you might have some luck. And of course, there's always the waitlist!

Good luck in your purchase process and hopefully everything will work out well for you.
