Use Year Question

My DH and I are seriously considering purchasing at AKV. How does use year (month) correlate with planning vacations? I am a teacher, so we can only travel at peak times and travel mostly in July and early August. Is there a month that is better for us to purchase? I believe the vacation guide we met with in August mentioned we would be purchasing a December use year.

June Use Year month would probably work well :

this would give you unitl January 31 to bank your points ( banking must take place no later than the end of 8th month of your Use Year )

If you plan to travel mostly in July or August you would get your allotment of points on June 1, 2009 for example. If your plans changed or you had to cancel ( at least 31 days before check-in date**) you would have plenty of time to bank into next Use Year. Also, if you perhaps plan to travel during December/New Year's school holiday break you'd still have until January 31, 2010 to bank points into your next Use Year.

** keep in mind that whenever you make a DVC reservation you must cancel 31 days or more before your check-in date or your points will go into
Holding Status and then those points cannot be banked no matter how much time you have until your banking deadline... if you cancelled less than 31 days to check-in you would have to use those points by the end of that current Use Year.
