use year question

I am thinking of buying DVC in November during our Thanksiving trip. My question is this...does it matter what use year I get? Should I try to get a specific use year? If use year is important then should I go for a resale contract? Money will not be an issue as I will be getting a basic contract at first and paying cash.

I guess that is more than one question - any help would be appreciated

As far as use year goes, this question is asked several times a day. You will find a large selection of answers by clicking on the Search button above and searching for "Use Year".

If I were paying cash, I would buy resale. That's what we did. You will save some money but closing takes a little longer. What the heck, you've waited this long already. What's a few extra weeks.

Some feel use year is important if you need to cancel a reservation late in your use year. That means, if you tend to travel a specific time of year all the time, you are best to have a use year that is just before that so you will be within your banking deadlines should you have to cancel. That being said, we probably have the wrong use year for us, but in 10 years of membership and trips, we have never once needed to worry about this, so I tend to think WHICH use year is unimportant.

As for resale VS direct from Disney... If you are hoping for one of the "sold out" resorts, you can choose either, and might get a better price resale (unless you are hoping for BCV), but if you are thinking SSR for the extra 12 years or AKV for the extra 15 years, then I think you are best to go direct from disney.

Know for sure which home resort you want, and work from there.

Sometimes, when you buy through Disney, you get more points depending on the time of year you buy and the use year you choose.
