Use Year Question

I am planning on buying into DVC in the next two to four months. I know that this question has been asked before, but the "search the thread" is not working for me right now. Thank you for your patience!

DVC is currently offering a September Use Year. If this was my use year, what the heck does the eleven month booking window start? Is it eleven months from when my points arrive? Is it eleven months beginning in Sept.? . I plan to travel most in Dec, April, or June/July, and I have no idea when I could book based on the Use Year. Help Please.....

The 11-month window is in reference to your travel dates and has nothing to do with your Use Year. You can make a reservation at your home resort as early as 11 months in advance of your check out date. So if your home resort was SSR and you wanted to book a 5-night stay at SSR starting June 17, 2007, you could book that trip on July 22, 2006, 11 months prior to your check out day of June 22, 2007. When booking at resorts other than your home resort, you can book starting 7 months from your check out date.

Where your Use Year comes into play is the points you will use to make that reservation. In the example above (trip dates June 17-22, 2007) with a Sept Use Year, that trip falls in your 2006 Use Year. So you could use 2006 UY points for the trip, and/or could bank 2005 UY points into 2006 to use for that trip, and/or could borrow 2007 UY points into 2006 to use for that trip.

Dec and April would be the best use years for you in this situation but Sept is not a bad one. And the earlier you get the points, the more points you'll have over time. See if they'll let you have say a June use year and bank all the points or schedule a visit for say April this year using the 2005 points you couldn't bank.
