Use Year Question

OK, I have a question about use year and reservations.

When are points deducted from the accounts? Are they counted the moment you make the reservations, or are they counted when the actual reservations happen.


An example:

My use year is in Feb and I have 160 points. Lets say I use all my 2006 points. Now in June, I plan a trip for 2007 after my 2007 use year points are added. The total for the trip is 320 points. Now if the points are counted from when the reservation happens, then I would use all my 2007 and borrow all my 2008 points. However, if they take the points out immediately in 2006, then I wouldn't have enough (because I would borrow all 160 from 2007 and couldn't get to the 2008 points yet.) So which is the correct situation?

They are deducted when you make the reservation but from the use year and points accounting that is applicable at the time of the stay itself. Thus in your example, you would be able to use the 2007 points and borrow the 2008 (2 years worth) for a stay in your 2007 use year (June or after). Some have reported problems borrowing that far ahead but most have had no problems.

The points are debited at the time you make the reservation.

If you have used your 2006 points and wanted to make a 320 point reservation that falls in your 2007 Use Year, you will need to (and be able to) use your 2007 points and borrow your 2008 points.

In order to make a reservation, you will need to have the points available at the time the reservation will occur- but they will be debited from your account at the time the reservation is made. For a trip during your 2007 Uses Year, you could not use 2006 points unless they have been banked.
