Use Year question - when you can book

I just closed on DVC and have a September UY. I banked my 2010 points (since they would expire in September and had to be banked as soon as my contract closed). If I want to book a trip now for Jan 2012, what points would I be using (I'm guessing I'd need to borrow 2011 points, since I don't get them until September)? Can I book at all since my UY isn't here yet?

I've read that UY has no impact on the 11 month/7 month rule, but don't quite understand what that means. Thanks!

Points should be in your account for September 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013. You don't wait to "get them". Reservations are based on date of stay, not when you call.

For January 2012, that would be in your 2011 use year (9/1/11-8/31/12). You could use banked 2010, current 2011, borrowed 2012. You can book your home resort at the 11 month mark, others at 7 months.

to the OP:

please be sure to notice that since your 2011 pts would be used for a stay in your 2011 UY, they are "current" pts. you could still "borrow" pts from your 2012 UY if needed, but don't be confused by the terminology. it's based on when you stay, not when you call to book.

as debbie suggested, start by looking at what use year your planned stay falls into and figure out whether you'll be using banked, current or borrowed pts based on that...

Thank you - that makes it make sense!
