I recently bought a 250pt SSR contract and would like to buy another 50pts or so, I see that most people say keep the use year the same because it is easier, is it also better to buy at the same resort? I'd like to stay at boardwalk and a few others sometimes but, I see it is very popular. Would it be better to buy a small boardwalk contract to get studios at the 11 month or buy more SSR points and try for a 1 bedroom at 7 months?

I would say buy BWV, but if you'd rather take chances at 7 months you will get lucky sometimes. (preferred pool view) I got studios at 7 months before, but i don't want to chance it, there is only so many years left. ;)

Owning a second resort allows you to have some points to use at 11 months for that resort.

So, if you have a small BWV, you have at least 40 points each year at 11 months…utilize banking and borrowing and would have more.

Then, at 7 months you can try and book more nights with SSR points or split stay. Since we like split stays, we have different resorts so we can have home resort at multiple places.

Currently booked for January in 1 bdrm p/g view at BWV using my SSR points using the split stay method. Can’t wait to try it out!
BWV standard view is notoriously difficult to get for owners and a source of frustration, which is well documented here on the boards.

I would buy BWV, same UY just in case you want to combine them. I would also run the numbers on 50 vs 100 as the cost per point will be less, closing about the same and you can certainly bank those extra points for longer or fancier digs! Prices are IMO great right now so let us know how you did!

We have 8 contacts total spread over 4 resorts but all are the same UY. We use the 5 of the contracts for home resort booking but if there are a few “left over” points then we will use them at 7 months in combination with the other 3 contracts for a non home resort booking. It was very important to us to have them all be the same UY and therefore same member number. It’s easier to keep track of and easier to combine contracts at 7 months. That said there are plenty of people who have different UYs and make it work.

Having multiple UY's drove me crazy!! Being able to combine at 7 months is huge!

You either transfer or make reservations for individual nights and call to ask that MS link the reservations. We always go to the desk upon arrival to ensure we do not have to move. We have always been accommodated.

So i'm going to be adding days on at 7months (points from different resorts & different UY), is that going to require a transfer?

Thanks for all the info guys, I like the idea of split stays, we like to stay for 8 or 9 days, how would everyone recommend I split a stay? I'd like to experience all the resorts eventually. Is 3 x 3 day splits too many, like with checkout and check in times are you missing out on the resorts? Is it better to just split a visit between 2 resorts?

You can transfer from resort to resort on the phone with MS. You are not limited to the 1 per year rule. If a CM tells you that, just thank them and call back. The 1 year rule is from member to member.

When you transfer, ask them to book your villa so you ensure you get what you see online. Good luck!

I like 3 (or more) nights best, not sure i would want to stay less than 3, even though I did it at AKV, i feel ok with that because it is out there on its own island. lol

Think of your two UYs as though you are two different owners.

You can’t make a single reservation across both. Points need to be moved from one to the other to do it!

Yep, i get it. I've just never dealt with it before, so I'm wondering if i needed to do some kind of transfer or other prior to the window opening (which i guess i couldn't anyway prior to 7. lol)
I'm going to be using extra points leftover from BWV Oct, AKV Sept & VGC June to book/add a lake view room at BLT Sept (@ 7 months), so i assume MS can handle it all when the 7month window opens, I'll just have to call as opposed to doing myself online.

Just make sure that the leftover points you want to use work for the trip as they maintain their own UY

But yes, you can call to transfer and have it done at the same time…you just risk losing the room in the time it takes to do all of that since you are asking them to transfer from two different UYs.

You can do ithe transfers ahead of time and then you can try online at 8 am. Yourself.

Highly recommend split stays. Our goal was to stay in each deluxe resort and then decide what we really like to prioritize for future trips/DVC purchases. We love it because it really feels like two different vacations. We go twice a year (Feb & Oct) and split our trip 6/6 each time. That's been the sweet spot, for us anyway.

Personally, I would stay away from more than 2 resorts for a split stay. I say that because my wife banned me from ever doing it again :-) From experiencing 3 over 10 days (3, 3, 5) we learned that the unpacking/packing was just too much for us. Plus any food that you may be bagging up to transfer. 2 adults and 2 girls (now 9 and 7). We like to unpack and feel like it's our place.

As is anything with Disney though, to each their own. It may work out great for you. Good luck!

Do you go specific dates, or days, etc?

For instance i have it in my head the 2 perfect trips are:
8 nights Sat-Sun
Only 1 week off from work, maximizing that week by traveling at the very beginning & absolute end, getting the most of time off.
or
12 nights Sun-Fri
Only paying for 1 weekend (Fri/Sat), getting the most out of your points.

Then just wrap them around any specific dates/holidays, etc. :)

We wanted to bring the grandparents for a trip and they don't want to go when its hot, is January and February still warm enough to enjoy the pools?

You can transfer at any time. You can transfer current and following UY points.

Once transferred they retain all their own rules so you can’t use them before 7 months if you are using for a different resort, but they can move before then

So you could technically call tomorrow and have them move your BWV 2024 Oct UY points and your VGC 2025 June 2025 points to your AKV Sept UY membership.

They’d all be there when you need them. Not sure you want to move them until you are closer to when you will book, in case you change your mind for your plans, but they are eligible for transfer today.
