I HATE Use-Years. They are annoying as all get out. Our contract is November, and it's a PAIN, PAIN, PAIN that when I see Use Year 2016, I think "Oh... These are my 2016 points. But NNNNOOOO. They are my 2017 points. Sure, they start in the END of 2016, but MOST of the year is good for 11 months in 2017! And those 2017 points? Yeah... they are REALLY 2018 points. Heck it's still my 2015 points that I have all year to use and we're well into almost half of 2016 now!

</Rant>

Sorry... It just confuses me EVERY TIME and I had to get it out.

<Deep Breath>

Hope you feel better! :)
-bwvBound ... who wanted Dec BWV but owns Oct SSR (nothing confusing about that, right? :joker:)

Did I mention it's even worse when I roll those 2015 points into 2016 (which are now good until almost 2018 when 2015 was just a cold distant memory) and I keep thinking - wait... are these use or lose? I am allowed one year back, but those are THREE years ago!!!

I have a Feb UY so it's just about as simple as it gets.

But rather than work it all out in my head, I keep a notebook and work it all out in writing. Had to make a system.

You need to make a system that works for you so you're not confused each time or frustrated or angry.

Okay, it's December. But that means it's really the end of November that the points expire, right? Which is kinda my point about the points... I think.

Wait... what?

lol - yes, points that were expiring would need to be used up before the next Dec 1st or Nov 30th would be the last night they could be used. Technically though it's a Dec UY. :)

Yes, December UY is weird, but it is great if you take a lot of trips in December and in the spring. If you have to cancel, you have a long time to reschedule your expiring points.

We have October and did not like when we took summer trips due to kids in school. Now that we go in October, November or early Dec. it is fine and works well.

any chance you could share a screen shot of your notebook? No problem if it is too private. We are waiting to close on a September use year with 2016 points, we plan to book a trip as soon as possible. Then for September 2017 points we want to go in May of 2017, does that work? Why I so confused. I think a board said you can use them bc they know they are coming?

You could always buy a traditional specific-week timeshare (or a fixed week at VGF or PVB). Then you'd never have to worry about it as long as you travel the exact same week every year :)

September UY works like this:

2015: 9/1/15 - 8/31/16
2016: 9/1/16 - 8/31/17
2017: 9/1/17 - 8/31/18

Following that mini-chart, you can see that you'd be using your "2016 use year" points to travel in May 2017.

If you want to use 2017 points for a May 2017 trip, you'll have to borrow them. May 2017 is in your 2016 use year.

OMG I'm with you!!! I have two contracts which makes it even worse. An April and a September. I've screwed up the use years big time on several trips, including one where I invited the whole family and then realized I didn't have enough points because I had the freakin use year wrong again!

Wish they would all run on the calendar year. It would keep things so much simpler.

I have two contracts for the second one I made sure to match the use year even if it was more expensive. My use year is April, Feb would be easier but I didn't know things the first time I bought.
