Can someone please clarify how the use year is defined by DVC, specifically when it is used in conjunction with an actual year?

For example, my use year is April, so if I say my "2009 use year" would you take this to mean my year beginning in 2009 (i.e. 4-1-09 and ending 3-31-10) or my year ending in 2009 (i.e. 4-1-08 - 3-31-09).

We just purchased DVC resale and through the course of all my discussions/questions/research etc. , I became accustomed to thinking use year referred to the year beginning with that date, but when I look at my member profile on the DVC member site, I see that the points I have coming this upcoming April 2009 are actually listed under "use year 2010".

This seems inconsistent with everything else I've read (posts on the rent/trade board for example) where use year seems to be defined by the beginning of the year.

Is this just another non-defined, confusing thing that will cause me to check, double check, and triple check transfers etc. or is DVC really right?:confused3

Thanks for your help

Use year for April 2009 would be for stays 4/1/09 to 3/31/10. If the website is saying 2010, you may have a discrepancy.

Your Use Year begins on the first of the month you have; that is how the Use Year works ( so do not think in terms of a calendar year that begins in January each year because that will only confuse )

Yes you are Correct - APRIL 2009 Use Year begins 4-1-09 / ends 3-31-2010

APRIL 2008 Use Year began on 4-1-2008 / ends 3-31-2009

Regarding your further question - it depends if you have 2009 Use Year allotment of points coming; for example :

Have your APRIL 2009 Use Year points been BANKED INTO 2010 Use Year? (probably not the case )

Or were the APRIL 2009 Use Year points borrowed into APRIL 2008 Use Year( in which case it would seem that the points could have been used by the seller, ie your resale contract was stripped of current 2008 Use Yeaqr & upcoming 2009 Use Year allotments of points --- I doubt this is the case because this should have been clear to you prior to purchase )

Call MS and ask them to go over with you what you are seeing online - as to why you only see points listed for 2010 Use Year.

Thanks for the prompt response - what you explained is exactly what I thought. We did buy a stripped contract - we fully knew that going in. Sellers had used all but about 30 of the points, so we have 30 points coming to us this April 2009, but when I look at the DVC site, they show April 2009 - 0 points remaining, 0 available to bank, 0 available to borrow but for April 2010 they show 30 points remaining, 30 points available to borrow. It's like they are a year ahead. I'll call them to clear things up - just wanted to make sure that I had my facts correct when I call them and try to explain what is wrong.

Do you think maybe the seller banked those 30 remaining points from 2009 UY into 2010 Use Year ? It is also possible that there is some sort of a glitch that happened and those 30 should be showing in 2009 Use Year; in which case MS should straighten things out & note them in the proper Use Year.

Good luck & CONGRATULATIONS on your purchase :goodvibes

Start with your Broker and find out what was reported to and from Disney. Your contract should state how many points are available.
