Use iPod to clear camera card

Perhaps this has been posted before, but we recently bought an iPod, and the final thing that clinched our purchase is that I could buy the camera connector accessory.

On our October trip to DL I was able to download the pics off my camera to my iPod rather than having to drag along my laptop!! This is SO much better, the iPod is nice and small, and while the hotel we stayed at in DL didn't have an in-room safe, I know the safe at the WL, the next time we visit WDW, will be large enough to store the iPod.

Anyway, just a suggestion, it was so nice not having to drag my laptop with me on vacation just to offload the camera! (and for us, this was a better option than buying a bunch more cards, I take too many pics!! :teeth: ).

Thanks! DH gave me a 60g for my birthday for this very reason! I was hoping it worked well...I'm paranoid about losing my digital pics!

Sounds like a great idea! I'm wondering if this would affect image quality or resolution??

Nope, no effect on quality or resolution...the regular iPods (the ones 10G or more) can act just like computer hard disks. This means saving the pics to my iPod's hard drive is no different than saving them off to my computer's hard drive. The iPod puts them all in a folder that I can then save over to my computer once I get home!

Easy! I saved over 200 pics to the iPod on our DL trip in October and had no issues with losing pics, etc. :cool1:

I have a sony digital cam with memory stick. How would I connect the cam to the iPod? Just a regular USB will automatically find the files on the cam and upload them to the iPod? hmm... If so, that sounds like a reason to buy to me.

You'll need to purchase an Apple iPod camera connector. Then just plug your camera's USB cable and your iPod to the connector. They sell around $30.00 I believe.

An "import" button will show up on your ipod once your iPod detects the camera, and you can upload everything to your iPod with ease. :)

Once you've import all your photos, there will be an option for you to format your camera's card. This is something to consider, because 1) the iPod will reimport images that it’s already imported. For example, if you’ve shot a dozen pictures, imported them to the iPod, shot another dozen, and then reattached the Camera Connector, the iPod will import all 24 images even though it’s already grabbed the first 12. and 2) it helps save space on your media card anywaz!

I had no idea!!!!!!!!!!

Hubby just got an Ipod from Santa. This is MUCH better than dragging a laptop along.

THANK YOU

Just a quick note...I tried to use my camera connector on my recent trip and it completely froze up the iPod. It was late at night and there was NO support available (and I was at WDW without internet). I had to let the battery completely die and reboot, so no photo unloading for me! I wound up having the photos from a smaller memory card saved to a CD on the ship, so I could at least have one card cleared for use.

I tried it again when I got home and the same thing happened. No word from iPod yet, though.

Let us know what you find out graygables. This would be wonderful for us but I hate to buy the cable if it doesnt work. We have an Ipod Mini not sure how much storage though.
