Can I run my dishwasher on an outside wall in this frigid weather? I started to then thought better of it and stopped it. It'll still be just as cold tomorrow and my dishwasher is full. I can just wait till wednesday if need be just wondering.

Where I live has recently made the news for being colder than Mars and the North Pole lol, -50 Celsius. We run ours on an outside wall with no issues.

I'm assuming by outside wall you don't mean it's actually outside..

Why wouldn't you? My kitchen sink, and dishwasher in the homes that have had one, has always been on an outside wall and it has never crossed my mind not to run it because of weather. If anything I tend to make a point to run it in the evening/overnight on very cold nights because the heat it generates helps keep the pipes in that exterior wall from freezing.

I don't know Colleen that's what I originally thought but then I got a little nervous about it worrying about pipes bursting:confused3

The pipes are more likely to burst if the water is standing still in them for too long. It would be better to run the dishwasher than not!

Pipes burst because water expands when it freezes. Disuse, which allows the water to sit still in the pipe, makes that more likely rather than less. (I'm married to a contractor/handyman who does a fair bit of plumbing, so I've gotten the lecture on how to avoid frozen pipes more than once over the years!)

And this thread was actually a good reminder... DH is out of town on a job right now and made me promise to run the dishwasher right before bed. I almost forgot!

Right... the best way to keep pipes from bursting in frigid weather is to have the water running.

You can also open the cabinet doors in the sink cabinet next to the dishwasher to allow the heat in the house to keep the lines warmer. It is quite common for people to keep all their sink cabinet doors open for this reason.
