Usairways Disaster?

How awful for everyone - DH flew US Air out of Philly this morning to O'Hare - he said the airport was a zoo, very few spots left in long-term parking, security check line was huge and they made him check the bag he wanted to carry-on (it is one of those 'borderline-in- size' bags, but he was hoping to carry it on and avoid loosing it!).

The good news is he took off on schedule, landed on schedule, and his bag made it to the turnstile - hoping for all of you travelling soon that they are getting their act back together !!

I usually book all of my trips on USAir but I didnt want to take a chance this time. We are flying United at PHL in April. Did someone mention problems with United also?

I noticed that when I booked my flights, it said to check in at the USAir desk. Should I be worried?

Thanks,

LAH

If I were you , I would be. You're booked on US Air flights(United and US Air have a code share agreement), which if US Air goes out of business will no longer exist. United will be obligated to get you to your destination, since you bought their tickets through them, but the flight times might end up being atrocious. United doesn't fly non-stop from PHL to MCO, if you end up getting re-routed, you'll either have to fly through National, or O'Hare.

If it is telling you to check in with USAir then it is a code share and your seat is on a USAir plane.

If USAir goes away you would have to deal with United about your flight and ticket.

Yesterday's paper made it sound like the "sick out" was just an unusual confluence of people calling in to get extra vacation time off. The union said it was due to poor management not any union action...that there is normally a rise in sick time this time of year.

The union rep said there is always an increase in the number of sick days during the holidays. Interesting how unapologetic he was about the employees lying in order to avoid working. Very nonchalant.

We have a trip scheduled in April and one in July. No way would I trust USairways to get myself and luggage to MCO. My luggage did not make the connection in Philly and two days later my sister had her flight cancelled that was not weather related. They had to be bused for the final leg of the journey.

All of our trips with one exception have been with USairways and there is no way I would risk the aggravation and uncertainty with USair.

We flew into Albany, NY last night (on Southwest) from WDW and you would not believe the baggage claim area. Hundreds of bags strewn about all tagged US Air. What a mess.

There have also been reports of Southwest having baggage problems over the holiday. It wasn't the same size but sounds like most of the airlines had problems.

USAirways workers are just hurting themselves.
