USAir in trouble?

I read today that the merger with United has fallen through. US Air's president said he did not see how US A could now survive against United, American and Southwest. I have not flown US Air for years, but they dominate our local airport. Should be interesting.

I hope not! I have a ton of miles on US and also they're the only airline I can ever get cheap airfares on when I fly to see my parents!!!

Do you think they would get picked up by someone else or are they going to go the way of the dodo bird???

aa is also talking about purchasing usair! they have talked like this for years about usair! and they are still going strong.

US Airways' Chairman has been moaning this same line for months, first in order to gain sympathy from regulators to approve the merger, and now that the merger has been called off completely, to gain sympathy from another potential suitor.

The message is clear (per industry commentators). US Airways is in need of an entire restructuring from the top down and needs to rid themselves of underperforming routes and retire their oldest fuel guzzling planes in favor of newer fuel efficient ones. Their operating expenses are the highest in the airline industry.

I think we will be seeing a lot of changes from US Airways in the coming months. If not, they are faced with the same prospects as TWA before they were rescued by American--bankruptcy.

aaaaaah I just booked with usair for my trip to WDW in November. I was so thrilled with myself getting everything together in advance. It will be interesting to see what happens.

you'll be fine flying usair. Word has it that they are claiming it will go belly up to make the buyout a lot easier.........they have spent toomuch time before the announcement to let it fall apart like they are leading the public to believe. I can still remember all the crap that went on with the piedmont/usair merger back in 88/89.

I'd actually like to see US Airways merge with American or Delta. I've never liked United to be honest. Just as long as someone has Pittsburgh as a hub, I'll be happy! (or else, use Cleveland)

oh man, i started putting miles in United, thinking that my United miles were going to be merged with US Air miles anyway.

oh well, US Air has been my fav airline anyway. guess i'll wait and see...
