USAir and seat assignments question

I believe in something, I just don't know what it

Many moons ago, I bought our airfare for our upcoming trip to Orlando. I bought the tickets online and chose seats. Several months later, I noticed that our seat assignments had been changed but we were still together, so no biggie. I just went to usair.com to check on things again, and now it says "check in at airport." What is up with that?! I picked our seats and now I don't have seats? Can someone please explain this to me?

It's possible that they might have changed the type of aircraft that you are flying on. I would suggest you call USAir to straighten it out before arriving at the airport.

I called the USAir automated help line to see if I could get seat assignments, and a recording told me that I already had seat assignments (which correspond to the second seat assignments we had), even though my reservation on their website says otherwise. I don't get it.

I had the same thing happen to me. They changed our flight and then placed us in the very back row. The flight time changed and messed up our travel plans and also, DH will never fly in the back row again. So I called and the customer service representative stated she couldn't do anything for me so I asked to speak to her supervisor who changed our flight time and we have seats that are not the back row. Make sure you speak to a live person. Our ressies on US Air website are now showing that we are on three different return flights. I keep checking and calling to make sure everything is in line. I keep being assured that the current return flight is the only one showing on their system.
CGood luck!

The very same thing is happening to me, but I think it will be OK.

I had booked our tix on USAirways' website a while back, and like you, I chose seats right then and there. I even got an email confirmation from them indicating my seats. (We are traveling with three kids age 5 and under, so it's important that we sit together). Like you, I checked my status online a few weeks ago, just out of curiosity. Suddenly, it said "Check-in at airport required".

I called USAirways and was told that I would need to deal with it at the ticket counter or gate on day of flight. I didn't like that answer so I called back the next day and spoke with someone else. He told me that their system showed only 3 seats assigned, although we purchased (and selected) 4 seats! But he said there is nothing we could do until day of flight. I didn't like that answer either so I called back again the next day. Finally, I got someone helpful who put me on hold while she fixed the situation. She assigned us 4 seats together on both legs of the roundtrip (better seats than we had originally).

Still, the website says "check-in required". I even called a few days later, spoke with someone else just to confirm that my seats were locked in. They are. And after reading your post, I check their automated phone system and my seats are still locked in. So, I'm deciding not to worry about it. I'm going to try to use online check-in next Friday afternoon; hopefully it will reflect our seat assignments. If not, I'll deal with it at the airport.

My experience with USAirways is that while their ticket and ressie agents are always courteous, it is really hit or miss as to whether you get someone who really wants to help you. Unfortunately, there is not much competition for them in flying out of Pittsburgh.

Good luck, I'm sure it will work out just fine.

I had this happen on a flight to London this December. The flight time changed and for the return flight the website said to check in at aiport for our seats. I called USAir and they said we still had our same seats. When I got to the airport in London to check in we learned we had been upgraded to Envoy class (and what a great flight to get upgraded on:bounce: ).

I really don't know if the website told us to check in for our seats because something had already been triggered giving us the upgrade or if it was just a coincidence. But, you never know....

Had this happen several times and have been told several times that seat assignments are never gaurnteed. I have some very stressful times awaiting flights b/c of this...also have been bumped to first class b/c of it as well. It typically happens when they change equipment/flights or you show up late at the airport.
