usage year & magical beginnings

i called and spoke to someone from dvc today and she went thru the sales pitch and spoke of magical beginnings program and how vwl is close to selling out...
anyway, she also mentioned that my usage year would be june 2001 so i would be getting my new points in june of 2002...so basically, if i join now, i get my 2001 points to be used by june 2002 and new points again in 2002...anyone hear of this...is this some promotion that they are currently running...
also, anyone here make use of the magical beginnings program...can you trade in only a portion of your points or is it an all or none type of thing....

Actually, you would get your June 2001 points to be used now OR banked into 2002 and you would then have double points for 2002. That is, of course, unless you use the Magical beginnings, in which case you can sell back some of your 2001 points to bring down the cost of your initial investment.

i'm not complaining, as this would work to my advantage, but why wouldn't my usage year start on december if i buy in december...

I bought in September 99 and got an April use year. At that time you could only sell back 150 points with MB when buying over the phone, so I sold back 150 of my 250, banked the other 100 and got 250 more in April 2000 before my first trip in May 2000. We go 6 nights in May (OKW 1 BR) and 6 in December (BWV 1 BR standard) and I still have 24 points to bank into 2002. So taking the $1,500 credit was worth it.
