I'm also in a panic having to go without my Chapstick! Maybe I can hide a blob of vaseline in my belly button?? :rotfl2: JUST KIDDING guys! I am going to follow the rules, as I don't want to miss my flight on my very first trip to Hawaii. I'm thinking it will be a might safe flight.

Do like Gaylord Perry and load up your baseball hat with chapstick.

As for the eye drops thing, that goes back to a thwarted threat in the mid-90's, there is the news quote: In the mid-1990s, officials foiled a plan by terrorist mastermind Ramzi Youssef to blow up 12 Western jetliners simultaneously over the Pacific. The alleged plot involved improvised bombs using liquid hidden in contact lens solution containers.

They won't say anything about this one yet but I prefer that they take extreme safety measures such as these rather than be lax about it and put us all at a more serious risk.

One of our local TV reporter just said the ban on liquids will most likely be permanent. I guess the only thing I will be carrying on will be my camera and my ostomy supplies. I will ship home my breakable souvenirs.

I just got off the phone with Nathan at United Airlines customer service where he is a manager. He specified that everything you have read on the above message is true...just go to United.com. However he did mention that if you will be leaving in October or later to call about 2 or 3 days before departure and double check the regulations. :thumbsup2 I was worried about Electronic items as cary on's such as DVD player, Computers, Cell phones and games. :confused3 He said "no problem" with those items carying on. Be prepared to be at the security check points at least 3 hours ahead of time! WHAT are we going to do with the time we will be waiting AFTER security? :confused3 Our flight leaves at 6:00 AM so we will have to be there by 3:00 AM which means that we will have to leave our house by 1:30 AM which means we will get NO SLEEP! I tell you, they had better step up the beverage service on those planes or they are going to have a bunch of P..... off customers! :rotfl2: Helen

First of all, the people we are fighting are not the people who are attacking us. Pick up a newspaper, why don't you? The people who are attacking us are a terror group, not part of the Iraqui or Afghan military.

Second of all, our government does kill their civilians on purpose. Our government is just as bad as the terrorists if not worse.

Okayyyyyy... We are not fighting the Iraqui or Afghan military, we are working with them and their governments. The terrorists/murderers are attacking anyone that is "different" than themselves, including their own countrymen. They are not making any differentiation between civilian and military, everyone is a free target. Look at today in Bagdad, large bomb in a market, no military target at all.

Second statement, I think I know what you are trying to say, but the wording that you used says that our government kills our people on purpose. It's real easy for a guerilla-style group to look like a civilian, they don't wear uniforms. Really easy to say, these guys that were shot were only innocent civilians, don't pay any attention that they were fully armed and charging a known police/military/government position.

As to the OP and getting back to the subject... A letter from a doctor will not allow any type of over-the-counter gels/drops/liquids to get through screening at this time. It must be a prescription in original bottle/tubes to be allowed.

You're kidding right? Thousands of little children? Fighters in disquise?
It's this kind of mind set that will bring us to WWIII!

I get it US=Bad rest of World= Good.

Guys, come on , let's not turn this thread into an ongoing argument. Although what has been happening is very serious, let's remember what got us on the Disboards in the first place.......to discuss things about Disney.........the "Happiest place on Earth"
Let's not bring eachother down with the harsh comments back and forth to one another. Please, just use common sense on what to bring on the plane and purchase whatever you need when you arrive at your destination. This "sacrifice" is the LEAST that we could do.............

OK so I can figure out how to deal with the new airline security procedures. It will make traveling by air more inconvenient than it was before, but I can deal with a few hours of inconvenience. Now what I'm wondering is, is this going to affect security procedures at WDW? WDW is still a nice attractive soft target. Could anyone forsee WDW starting to crack down on what people bring into the parks? i.e. bottled water, etc. I mean if it's dangerous on an airplane it stands to reason the same thing could be done in an amusement park right?

Honestly I think the answer is yes.

I am sorry, I was reading this thread for some information and wanted to stay out of the off topic discussions but this kind of thinking, this justifying the deaths of innocent children by saying we just couldn't tell is BS. I have seen the pictures that the newspapers here do not show. I have seen pictures of Iraqi children some the same age as my children, lying dead among the rubble and they WERE NOT part of the problem. Their deaths ARE tragic and unneccesary and should not be discounted because it comforts many of us here to classify them as an "accident". Would knowledge of intent really comfort you if it were your child?

While we sit here and debate whether we can bring can bring diaper cream and cold medicine for our children there are mothers who are worrying whether their little ones will survive through the night because their homes, their hospitals are being bombed. Why does expressing this kind of compassion for these mothers or other dead civilians always have to be seen as liberal or anti-american?

Sorry for the OT rant and I do not mean to belittle this discussion of the new airline policies, I just had to say something.

You know, even before this happened I noticed that the airlines were getting lax on what people brought onto the plane.

I flew on Thursday and the sizes of the suitcases that people brought onto the plane amazed me.

One lady had a dog carrier, a carry on, a purse, a computer and some other bag. The flight attendent was furious! Made her dump her stuff in a trash bag and was told she could take the purse and the dog to her seat. She really should have been stopped before she went on the plane.
Why do people need so many things on a flight? This wasn't even a long flight.

...Trying to stay On Topic....

My original plan was to do only carry on luggage but since we leave in 5 days, I now plan on wearing a fanny pack with my wallet, tickets and gum/starbursts for the kids to keep their ears from popping and checking everything else. I guess since my point was to keep control of my own bags and have them right with me when we get off the plane and to the resort with me, I'm just going to check 'em all. I usually don't need my contact solution in such a short period of time, but since I only have one bad eye and I'm not driving the plane, maybe I'll just pack all my eye stuff or wear the glasses. I don't know, ME is tempting but since none of my "essentials" (meds, eye care, toiletries) will be traveling with me directly, I don't know if that's a good idea. I always worry that it's more sets of hands to lose my stuff. My kids want to bring a CD player and a Nintendo DS for entertainment on the plane. I guess I'll just ask when we check in if those are going to be allowed or not.

It's a shame we have to go through this but it's for all of our safety so it is what it is. I'm kinda glad I'm flying out of Midway instead of Ohare. Even though they have the same precautions, it's a smaller airport with less travelers.

1) It is tough to understand all the complaining.
2) Air travel is not a RIGHT, it is a PRIVILEGE.
3) In such, the rules are the rules.
4) A little inconvenience is better than the alternative.
5) Give me the new rules versus a bomb on board.
6) I survived a major DC-9-30 crash, and won't temp the air gods again.

7) There are options for the complainers
. . . ship the items early, such as UPS or FEDEX
. . . place the items in the checked luggage
. . . if neither is desired or acceptable, take a car-bus-boat

NOTE: I am sorry if this sounds harsh or uncaring, but after more than two-million air miles it is tough to show sympathy to the whiners. People don't NEED chapstick, bottled water, soda, dvd's (although I do like mine), computers to get from one airport to another. I am sure if you ask a Marine in Iraq his/her feelings, they would say to adhere to the rules. People are dying, so I don't think a few hours in the air without some luxuries will hurt any of us.

I agree with you 100% and there is no need on your end to apologize. I travel frequently, and I too would rather be a little inconvenienced than the alternative.

We have used Magic Express for the last three years and have never had a problem. This last time in June our flight got in after 10 so our luggage was in our room after midnight but it was all there and in good shape. It really is a convenient service, give it a try! :wizard:

Here's the deal.......
NO matter what war it is, and who is fighting it, innocents will be killed. It is something, unfortunately, that we have to accept. Now I am not saying that we should not be sad about it or feel for the ones that have lost love ones; if it does not pull on your emotions when you see it, there is something wrong with you. BUT!, a country must do what it feels it has to do. Example: WWII the 2 atom bombs in Japan. Thousands of inncoecnt;s lost their lives, but it is something the US felt they had to do to end the war for good.

In Iraq, we are no longer fighting a military force, but groups of peopel who want to control the country. The chaos going on in Iraq is caused by religious groups not wiling to compromise with each other. It is the mind-set of the people not the US. (I have 4 family memebrs over there, and I hear stuff that I am not supposed too. So do not try to argue about this one with me)

Israel and Lebonon: Israel is doing what it feels is nessary to defend itself from a terrorist group! I hope that our country would do the same. For the innocents that are being killed there it is a shame, but Israle has tried to warn them (they have dropped many and many leaflets in areas well before they bomb it, so the civillians have a chance to leave)

And one more thing before I go back to nice guy :) ladies and gentlemen, I hate to burst your bubble, but we are in WWIII (some would say WWIV, and that the cold-war was WWIII, anyways)!!!! It is a "global" war on terrorism. What the "ef" do you think global means! I say bomb the damn *******s and get it over with!

Okay back to nice guy...
Rember guys no fluids on the planes. I would hate for ya'll not to be able to go on Vacation (whether you agree with my point of views or not) becuase we all deserve to go to WDW!
