US to lift travel ban for foreign air travellers who show proof of vaccination

If the US doesn't end up allowing mixed vaccines what does that mean for our own Prime Minister? Zoom calls only with the president, since he won't be considered fully vaccinated either?

For travel on official government business he could well be exempt under essential traveller rules.

Currently, Canadians do not need to be vaccinated to fly to the US, but they do have to have to have a negative covid test taken within a specific timeframe before their travel.

Also, the requirement to be vaccinated to fly for/from/within Canada (also to take interprovincial trains, and to cruise, though cruise ships are not yet allowed) has not yet been implemented, that is due to start some time in October, date not yet announced. What Canada did do is allow vaccinated non-essential US travelers to enter Canada. And Canada allows Canadians who are vaccinated to enter and not have to go into quarrantine. There is also testing.

Crazy... For months I thought that with time, travel would get easier as more people would get vaccinated. So far, it has only gotten harder (now we need the vaccine AND the test AND to be wearing masks) ... By the way, has any explaination came out regarding the masks? Did they say when and where they have to be worn? (It's not a problem for us as there is already a mask mandate for indoors here ... but I just hope it's not to be worn outside as well).

After talking with Dh, we decided we are going for our third shot. We are in Alberta, and know we want to travel this winter (longerish long weekend into the US and one warm relaxing holiday) and just want to be sure that our vaccination won't prevent us from being able to go.

I think this is the route we will go if we find out that our mixed doses won’t be acceptable. But our potential plans aren’t until January so we have time to wait and see.

I sure hope Ontario gets around to this. If we could get a third dose, winter travel just might be a possibility. Not holding my breath though.

I will get a 3rd dose as well but what is the acceptable amount of time between doses? My second does was mid june, if Ontario doesn't allow 3rd doses until November will that be good enough or will I need a 4th dose. It's all very confusing and I wish our Premier would come out of the hole he's hidong in amd offer some direction on this

I have the feeling Ontario will follow BC, and no third shots. It's all very frustrating and makes me second guess my decisions. I hope things are sorted out for March break travel, but I need to PIF my cruises by December, so I need a decision by then.

I hope that the CDC will follow the UK guidelines and allow mixed vaccines. Three months for them to sort that out I guess (for me) but really only two since that's when they'll be asking for proof for flights?

So is BC saying no shots or no shots yet? There’s a chance that we haven’t heard anything because it’s currently being worked on at a federal level. I still dont expect to left be twisting in the wind. Call me naive, but I still have faith that a solution is being worked out. I’m eager to hear the details though and frustrated with all the waiting.

I'd say it's more of a "no shots yet" scenario here in BC. Needing a booster for travel has been brought up before now so it's definitely on their radar, just not something they are willing to do yet. The latest announcement is booster shots for severely immunocompromised people, which is about 15,000 at the moment.

Ontario has been doing boosters for immunocompromised since sometime in August . Like you I think they will offer them for the AZ mix crowd eventually , if we don’t get an announcement that they won’t be needed first.

I've known a few people who have had the third dose, but as you mentioned, they are immunocompromised. Their physicians contacted them to set up the appointment. There was no wait since I believe we have a good supply now.

I still think certain countries would change their policy for mixed doses. But I understand that getting the third dose for those who received the mixed doses seem to be the easiest fix.

Manitoban here! I was a mixed dose (AZ/Pfizer) and got my third dose of pfizer today as I am hoping to travel in February. I'll let y'all know if I grow another arm or the buzzing of Bill Gates' voice in my head gets too loud - although he has been very helpful with all my IT problems lately. What boggles my mind is that the government is warning Canadians (vaxxed or not) against international travel but allowing vaxxed tourists into Canada. This is incredibly hypocritical. You can't suck and blow at the same time.

Congratulations! I too hope to travel in Feb but dh and I are mixed dose AZ/Moderna. Hoping for some pixie dust from the Ontario government!

I’m ok with growing a tail , I figure I can cover it with pants. Whatever buzzes in my head will have to compete with all the other noise so good luck to it. I too want to travel in January and I agree , I lost any sense of “But should I ?” when we started letting in literally anyone that’s fully vaccinated and does a test. I’m fully vaccinated and willing to test. I’ll be taking my trip thanks.

eta) I should add that if Florida’s numbers are still very high we will go elsewhere , but they are trending in the right direction so we will see.

Yes, if FL is still a disaster, we'll change plans. Plan B is to fly to Vegas, rent a car and find some empty desert to hike in.

I am not far behind you!! I need to put duct tape over the voice that pops up in the back of my head saying "Should I". This girl needs a vacation!!!

I'm an AZ/Pfizer mix from Ontario. I did a test to see if I could book a third dose, but no, still only those with the immune issues. But someone suggested we might be able to pay for our dose or even go to another province for it. I don't know how that would work or even who is selling doses (and would I trust them).

Like the PP, we want to be on our March break cruise, but if I can't get this sorted before the end of October, I'm not sure I can keep the cruise.
