Okay I admit we are a bunch of ride scardy cats :guilty: :rotfl: :rotfl:

At WDW... Splash & Space Mountains are a definite - no way Jose!!!

We like the ride thru type things.... Buzz is a favorite of ours. We also like Test Track, Soaring, and shows.

Are there any rides that you can recommend for us?????

DS wants to try Universal during our Dec trip (2nd week Dec) so we are considering a split trip.

Thanks!

In USF, the only thing that you would have to "worry" about is Revenge of the Mummy. If you can't do Space Mountain, ROTM may be too intense for you. Everything else is fine.

IOA: Skip the following
Hulk
Dueling Dragons
Ripsaw Falls
Jurassic Park River Adventure
Doctor Doom's Fearfall

You should be fine with everything else.

I'm wondering about Spider-Man? If it's a scare factor, maybe the 3-D effects would too much in the face.

DH did Spider-Man only once and vowed to never do it again. His problem is motion sickness though. Jimmy Neutron was too much for him too. He's okay with everything in Woody Woodpecker's Kidzone though. :rotfl2:

Okay seriously though, DS7 who has never met a ride he didn't like cried during Twister, refused to ride The Mummy a second time, got panicky during Eathquake, was okay on Jaws during the day but cried when we rode it at night and at IoA ... he loved everything.

That's all the fun though!!!

Dooooo iiiiiiiiiiit

The adrenaline rush will take care of you :p

If the 3D is too intense in Spider-Man, just take the 3D glasses off! :)

Jaws in the dark is much scarier than during the day. Something about the night ambiance makes certain rides more....creepy/thrilling/scary.

I'm in Orlando now on vacation and me (45), my sister (42) and my mom (71) are ride chickens. In Islands of Adventure we didn't ride Dueling Dragons, Hulk, and Dr. Doom's Fearfall. We did everything else (although I took the 3D glasses off in Spiderman - I have a motion issue). We did everything in Universal except for Jimmy Neutron (motion issue). While I wouldn't do the Revenge of the Mummy again, it was definitely worth it to do/see once and its a very short ride. If you like shows make sure you see the Hollywood Horror Makeup show in Universal. Its one of the best shows we've seen here so far.

Cat In The Hat strangely enough makes me feel ill, it's all that spinning around... my son loves it though.

While I love coasters, I'm not crazy about spinning rides either. The Cat in the Hat is just enough spinning for me w/o needing a barf bag. I came close to needing one on Storm Force and probably won't ride that again.

I was just going to say that on Spider-Man they're not 3-D Glasses, they're "Night Vision Goggles". ;)

Let me tell you I finally went on Space Mountain for the first time last week, I'm 24. And I absolutely HATED it!! I also refused to go on Splash Mountain with my boyfriend. I had a brain fart at IOA though and agreed to do Jurassic Park...pretty much almost cried because I hated it so much. Even though I don't like those ones I went on Hulk, Dueling Dragons, Cat in the Hat, Earthquake, Spiderman, etc. You should just suck it up and try the roller coasters. The worst part is the wait and that first couple seconds on the ride. After you start it is so fun! Plus you can get some great photos to look at afterwards!

Thank you to those that actually gave constructive advise as to what we may or may not enjoy. I really appreciate it :goodvibes :goodvibes

For those that said "suck it up" "just do it" ect ect....

Those comments really didn't help and actually kind of hurt :sad1:

Yeah but not doing Spiderman and/or JP while going to IOA is similar to going to an Ice cream shop and not ordering any ice cream.

I took a "chicken" with me this last time who swore they'd never do a big drop like on JP. I managed to get them on it and they were fine and wanted to ride it over and over. That drop is really not that big of a deal IMO.

As for spidey, definitely a must do and I in all good conscious cannot label this ride as scary. Maybe a very young child, but anyone over 6 or 7 I can't imagine it being scary too? But that's just me.

Personally the only ones I would classify as "scary" if such a thing even exists, is Hulk, DrDoom and the DDragons (at IOA). Mummy is the only one at the old park IMO.

JP gives me that "my stomach is in my mouth" feeling, but I LOVE that feeling so I ride it even though I get scared every time :rotfl:

The coasters don't bother me in the least, I could ride Sheikra at BG all day long and not get sick of it.

Doctor Doom's Fear Fall is the worst for me. I don't like the harness that straps you in. I feel like it's going to open & I'm going to go flying out of it. So that ride I get really nervous on - until it's over & then I'm fine. I'll only ride it if my Fiance really wants to go on it.

Does anything bother you???? Maybe it's spiders, snakes, closed places, airplanes, ect, ect, ect.

If so I wouldn't say... that "whatevers" no big deal go ahead and do it no matter how much it bothers you because its not big deal to me :sad2:

For us yes scary rides do exist. And since they do we simply prefer to avoid them. Because the drop is a major deal to us. :scared1: Before we went to WDW the first time I asked which ones we might not care for and the reason. We then made an informed decision. That's all I was asking for here.

It's too bad that those that didn't care to give me an informed opinion had to try to stop by a thread and basically make fun of my fears.:sad1:

I think at this point we are just going to stick with WDW and forget I asked about Universal :headache:

I wasn't making fun of your fears, I was telling you of a similar situation that I had in that a person thought that they were going to be afriad of a ride but wasn't.

I listed the ones that I thought would be too scary, and had my opinions as to the ones that I thought were not. I thought that is what you asked for?

Oh yeah and BTW there are definitely things that bother me/scare me, but its usually people.

I'm done with this thread :headache:

Good luck to all the fellow scardy cats :goodvibes

Don't go away mad.

I re-read what I posted and I honestly don't see how you could have come close to being offended by what I originally posted. And I don't even come close to seeing how you could have characterized what I said as "Making fun" of you.:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Minnie, I read through the thread before posting and I truly don't think anyone was trying to make fun of you - everyone was just sharing personal experiences :confused3 . Like Spidey said, don't go away mad! :grouphug: In regards to your actual question, I can soooo understand your fears when it comes to certain rides. If I start counting my phobias, I will run out of fingers on both hands. I get clammy hands and, probably, pre-coronary waiting in line for JP!!!! So let's just say if scardy cats had a club, I would definitely qualify for President. I have a fear of heights and, therefore, will not do any coasters, but LOVE the Space Mountain because it's in the dark and I cannot sea how high it is. A few times I tried to do the whole "mind over matter" thing and was able to enjoy similar to JP rides, as well as dark rides. But there are still plenty to do at Universal without having to do the "mind over matter" thing.

Anyway, you mentioned that you liked to "ride through" type of rides. There are a couple that you and your son might enjoy. Men in Black should be fine, although there is a bit of spinning. Earthquake and Twister... Shrek 4D should be fun too... And what about ET - it's a classic and a perfect choice for any scardy cat! Jimmy Neutron's should be rather mild as well... I don't remember if you mentioned anything about motion sickness though. Plus, there is Popeye & Bluto's....

I would give Universal a try... I adore Disney too, but if all parks were just like Disney, it would be pure boredom. Thank goodness for variety and choices!! US and Disney do not need to be compared - they are different and we get to have both of them and that's the beauty of it!

What I always say when people say they are afriad of coasters or other theme park rides, just remember percentage wise, coasters and other park rides are THE safest rides on the planet. You have a much larger percentage chance of getting hurt in a car accident on the way home from the park in your car on the freeway, than anything happening to you on a park ride, but I realize the fears stem from other reasons as well.

But from a safety standpoint, they are extremely safe. At least at the major parks, I'm not talking about state fair rides or any of those fly by night places.
