US Govt. trying to hide cases of mad cow disease in US beef???

I agree with you. The problem, I think, is that we have simple-minded fools in charge of these matters rather than scientists and it's not just the Agricultural Dept. (it is also the FDA, Environmental Protection Agency, and the like). Paper pushers make the decisions and ignor the warnings of scientists and one day it will, unfortunately, all come crashing down around us. The only thing we can do is look out for ourselves as much as possible. Sad really.

Yep. My cousin-in-law's sister (you got that??) used to be a meat inspector for the USDA. A lot of people have faith in these entities that supposedly make things "safe" for us. Anyway, she said she wouldn't eat the food she inspected. Oh, it passed the test alrighty, but she felt that the standards could have been a lot more stringent. But, it's really always about money and lobbyists.

ITA,

I am not a big Chicken Little. I do enjoy beef. However, sadly, this post is the truth.

Only I would make one change.... Instead of 'simple minded fools' I would put "Financially and Politically motivated" educated-fools.

I had recently posted about similar health issues here in the US, but unfortunately, people will believe what they want to believe, or will remain misinformed and uninformed about the truths. They are happily eating and drinking what they like to eat and drink. And, what is heavily promoted as the latest fad or craze by promotional agencies like the American Beef Council. (or whatever the name of the applicable agency happens to be)

While I can understand not wanting to test 100 percent of cows, 1 percent is a pretty small sampling IMHO. I feel this even more so since they recently found two cows with mad cow disease in this country.

I think I'm going to become a vegetarian. :confused3

Yes, even 50% would be wonderful. But, I still think it should be 100%. There is a KNOWN, lethal risk out there. Why we think we would be immune to it is just astounding to me. Test every darn cow in the food supply. I don't care if I have to pay more for the beef.
