I just wanted to share with my fellow Canadians some of my insight on the US election.

Wow - amazing!!!

We had advanced voting here in Georgia last week and my friend tried to vote at it twice. She gave up on Friday after waiting for 7 hours!!
She did get a number and was able to leave and shop, etc. but had to make sure she didn't miss when her number was called. She left at number 1,700 - her number was 2,075 at about 5pm.
She went again today to vote and luckily it only took her 1 1/2 hours, but I saw long lines at some stations.

I couldn't figure out why it took so long. I just laughed and thought, wow they really take their right to vote seriously (and they should::yes:: ) but I couldn't see any of us waiting for hours and hours ;)

Anyway I got a look at the ballot.......

Mind you here it is all done electronically on a touch screen computer (it differs in every state) but in our county besides voting for the President, they had 44 other items to consider on the same ballot  I might have been there all day!!

The other nice thing I saw was after you voted you got a nice sticker with a peach on it with the words "I am a Georgia voter", and most adults were wearing them proudly.

I wanted to put a sticker on me that said, "Not a citizen, can't vote" because at the local BK today I felt in the minority.

It'll be interesting to see the outcome. I only hope that this time they will be able to declare a winner tonight!

Wow, thanks for the insight:D --with a voting system like that I don't think I'd be voting very often:eek: , I don't have that much patience to wait in line for that long--here I thought this election was just for voting for the President--silly me, how was I to know that they were voting for 44 other items as well!!
Would those 44 items include something like whether there should be state wide gambling, etc.? Just wondering because I've seen a lot of commercials on the satellite about this recently!

Most of them were for state representatives, judges, sheriff, tax commissioner, congress, etc. The good thing is they put the party affliation by the name so at least you don't have to remember.

Each state has different amendments they have to vote on, so no gambling here. We have lottery but no casino's.

The amendments here were:
1. To define marriage as the union of a man and woman. Senate resolution No. 595)
Shall the constitution be amended so as to provide that this state shall recognize as marraiage only the union of man and woman?
Yes or No.

- guess what the majority in GA voted for on this one ;)
(results are already in)

The second one was something about allowing the Supreme court something (makes me sleepy to even read it)

The third one was about a special 1% sales tax - I could certainly relate to that one ;)

Rock the vote!!
