One week to go and I haven't got anything sorted yet !!!

I'm guessing that 'at the airport' is not going to be the cheapest...

Where can I walk in and get £500 worth at a good rate with no commision?

M&S usually have the best High Street rates :thumbsup2

You might need to order them the day before though :sunny:

We generally just accumulate over a period of time, you could just check your high-street Travel Agents and get the best deal, although as Alison says the likes of M&S may be slightly better.

Travelex usually have a good rate if you book online and you can then arrange to pick them up at the airport.

Just checked. Travelexs rate is slightly better than M+S....

On the subject of credit card fees, do they cc companies count this sort of transaction as a cash advance or what?

Just wondered. If not, I'll stick it on my CC but not if they're going to charge me 2.5% or something...

It is generally classed as a cash advance, so there is normally a fee. If you have and M&S &More card and order from M&S, I don't think there is a charge, but otherwise, I would try to use a debit card.

Don't forget to have ID like a Driving Licence or Passport, obviously not a problem in the airport but you may not carry them with you on the high street. Some currency places insist on them if you are paying by credit or debit card.

I've been caught out before! :teeth:

if you order from travelex online, you can pick them up at the airport like a previous poster said, doing this gets you a far better rate than just buying them over the counter.

We use Travelex online regularly - but one thing to be aware of, they will price match. Normall the highest tourist rate on a particular day is Thomas Exchange

You simply send Travelex an email with a link to the better rate, and they will refund you the difference by cheque. It can be worth about £30 - £40, depending on how much currency you buy.

Bummer. Wished I'd checked thomas exchange - it is better.

Looked at travelexs price promise - its only valid if you email them the same day you bought the currency from them. I bought it yesterday.,..
