I'm kinda tryna weed out which airline I would like to try other than Southwest for once. I have only flown twice, both Southwest, so I'm an airline novice at best. What have your experiences been with US Airways? Give me the good, bad and ugly.

Thanks!

I fly over 100k miles a year with US and am overall quite pleased. They have vastly improved over the past two years. Most of my flights are on time and I have never had a issue with checked baggage unless there is some extenuating circumstance (switching flights, weather issues, etc). I tend to try to avoid PHL and connect in CLT as it is a much nicer airport.

On board US has cut back a lot (as have most airlines). There is no video / audio entertainment and no power ports. They do have wifi internet on their A321 aircraft. The coach seats were recently re-done and are leather. US provides complimentary beverages but not snacks, they do however sell snack boxes which are not bad.

If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll try to answer them.

I only fly US Air if I absolutely have to, in other words, SWA doesn't fly where I need to go. They are okay. They do charge for checked bags. Also, US Air has more of a tendancy than SWA to cancel flights and move flight times.

I only use them if there is no other choice. They charge $150 per person to change your flight. Don't make a reservation unless you are positive you will not want to change it. SW has no charge to switch flights.

Good point, I forgot to mention that difference.

See, I've heard quite a few instances of airlines changing flight times. Just for that I'd stick with SWA because their schedule seems set in stone. I just thought I'd try another airline, but I guess not. Of anything else, those time changes scare me...lol...I have two young children.

Eh. They're OK. Service on board has really gone down over the years. Where are you flying out of?

If you're flying out of Philly, US Air is a pretty good choice. I fly with them all the time for business and personal (already booked with them for my Oct WDW trip). They can be a little pricier than some of the other carriers, but I can choose my seat in advance so it's not like boarding a bus, and with Philly being a major US Air hub, if there is a flight issues there are usually other US Air options out of Philly.

If your fly out in the morning, the chances of a delay are much lower. While I've had some delays now and then, I've never had US Air change my flight on me

How about AirTran? They just got #1 on some Best Airline list.

Lots of flight changes, historically. They do charge to check bags, make changes, for assigned seats, etc. AirTran is in the process of being acquired by Southwest anyway.

I have flown US Airways numerous times and have vowed never to fly them again. I have been delayed and had to stay overnight in the middle of the trip 3 times! I do not fly for business, just for pleasure so I don't fly all that often for those percentages.

We have not been pleased with how their customer service handles our problems either. I know they are supposedly changing - or changed. I haven't experienced that. They have broken my car seat. I had to buy a new one because I didn't realize it was broken until I got home (we had one that we could already use in the car on the way home). They said since we brought it home it couldn't be proven that they broke it.

My last flight with them was in December. This was the flight I had said that would be my last. Know what happened? They broke my double stroller! I am currently in the middle of having that resolved with their baggage department.

I have been informed that both strollers and car seats (I had to mention this to them as well) are not covered....

Sorry for the rant. I will not fly with them again.

Southwest is now my carrier of choice. As long as there are no holes in the top of the plane, they are great!

I have to laugh, because my first trip to WDW, USair bumped us off a flight and put us on another that went through Charlotte without so much as a free drink.
It was all good.I didn't care. I was going to Disney World! :wizard:

Airtran, with one checked bag, is only $10 more than SW with the sale they are having now. I had no problem with SW and I'd fly them again. Flew with them for the first time in October and was only really annoyed by the seating nonsense, but that was my fault for forgetting to check in online early. :confused3
