There is an article in todays Wall Street Journal talking about a potential merger between US Airways and America West. If it went through it would create a discount airline somewhere near the size of Southwest.
There are still some obstacles but the article seems to think that event if the merger doesn't go through US Airways will still emerge from bankruptcy and survive at least another year.
