US Airways is matching SWA prices in Phila. Just booked in may for $176. Yesterday US Air was priced at $212.

Good luck.

i know. i am so bummed! i wanted usair so that i could get a seat assignment and not have to worry about where we were sitting because i am traveling with 2 small children that have never flown before but i got nervous. i was afraid that since we were returning on a holiday weekend, that the flights would go fast so i bought from swa. and this morning, usair emails me with the fare decrease. i guess that is the way it goes some time!

This is one of the biggest benefits of having SWA fly out of your area. Sure, it's great to have them as an option, but their presence generally forces all fares down on the routes they serve.

any idea how long usair will have these lower fares? I am getting ready to book my airfare for late may with usair but i have to wait until early next week to have enough $$ in my account to pay for the tickets - the price is $150 less for 4 people than it was yesterday morning. Or should I just try and find a credit card with enough $$ on it to buy them now?

that will be up to you. i think that usair will definitely go fast. many will opt to get seating assignments and choose them if they haven't already booked something else. if it isn't going to drain your finances, then i would try to find a way to book now.

When I was picking seat assignments, the plane was about 3/4 full if that is any measure. But I'm sure not all of those seats will be at the reduced prices. If you can, I would jump on them soon. Who know they could be gone within hours or minutes. SWA only has so many reduced tickets per flight and their price goes up also, so I'm sure US Airways will increase theirs to match as time goes on.

Good luck

Jon

If your children are 4 and under you will be allowed to preboard and therefore be guaranteed seats together. They rarely stop preboarding with children 4 and under.

thanks gail but they are over 4. i was just nervous since they have never flown before or been away from their mother (my sister). i did just talk to southwest and decided to split the reservation to book online. i know that it doesn't guarantee the pass i want but in a strange way does give me peace of mind as another poster put it. thanks!

I checked USair for my dates and they had lowered the fare, but the trip going down and back are sold out for the cheaper fare.
So I would not wait too long to book with USair to get the better rate. It appears that they may not be offering too many seats at the lower rate.

I went ahead and booked my flights. Got 4 round trip for $706 and was able to get 4 seats together in row 4. I really like being at the front of the plan. My flights were only about half full when I chose the seats. Good luck to everyone!

I understand the piece of mind. Good luck in getting at least "B" passes. :)

Jon, thanks for the "heads-up"!!

I just called USAir and they are sending me a voucher for $150! :Pinkbounc I had booked early because I need 5 seats together and didn't want to take my chances with Southwest.

Thanks again!

I just booked USAir for $147 + tax = $177 for next January and we got great flight times.
Last week when I checked it was $215 + tax = $252
We just saved $300 thanks to Southwest and these boards!
Thank you to everyone for the updates.
