Ok. So. First time flying out of the US to Orlando (Flying out of Minneapolis). When we're checking in our bags is it basically the same as in Canada? They put the flight sticker things on the bag then send it on its way? Do they go through all the contents of the bag or anything once we're in Orlando?
What are the main differences? Thanks

Pretty much the same as when flying out of Canada. I've never had my check in bags opened in front of me, but I have heard people claim that their bags must have been looked at some time during the trip. You are not supposed to lock your check in bags. ;)

They will occaisionally search checked bags before they load them on the plane. If x-rays show anything suspicious (battery chargers, etc) they will take a closer look.

In terms of locks.... use a TSA approved lock. Airport screeners have master keys and can get in without cutting off the locks.

We use cable ties...makes me feel like the checked bags are "locked", and way cheaper than the TSA locks;)

Thanks! They won't actually go through the bags right in front of you though right? And is it recommended that we lock our bags?

Screening of checked luggage happens out of public eyes.

Some type of lock is advisable... cable ties are a good alternative, but once they're cut, they're gone. TSA approved locked will be opened, bag checked, and lock relocked.

You'll always know if you've been searched, as they leave you a nice note. :)

Are you from Winnipeg? Flying out of MSP is much cheaper. The process is very simple...NWA uses the self-check in screens which are very quick, and then an attendant quickly puts a sticker around your bag and sends it on its way! Once you arrive in Orlando, you simply pick it up from the baggage claim and go to wherever you're going!

You can make a quick shopping trip out of it! Nothing like spending a few days at Albertville and the Mall of America before packing up and heading to Orlando! Now if only there wasn't that drive home after you arrived back! ;)
