We live in Pittsburgh and if you do too you know that US air is going down to 8 gates in Sept...this is when we go to WDW and we usually fly US Air since it is hard to get a straight shot on any other airline (airtran maybe an option but Sept dates arent out yet)....also I am scared to book a flight on US Air for fear it will be cancelled...anyone else having this dilema?

I wouldn't worry to much. Pittsburgh to Orlando(MCO) is one of there best routes. Even if they cut down 1 of the Pitts-MCO routes(which I doubt) they will put you on another flight.

We have tickets(7) in June for Pitts-MCO and we have 3 tx for x-mas week with US AIR. If you find a good fare, with good times, with US AIR I would still book it. Our fares for x-mas week were $227 for non-stop flights. I booked them at the 330 day mark.

Whatever US AIR decides to do we have no control of.........so there is no use worrying about it.

The USAir situation is still under negotiation. They have already extended the deadline once, from January to September. My bet is it will be extended again if they don't have an agreement by then. It would be difficult for them to pullout so many flights in a short time and reorganize their schedule through another hub. The fact that they are publishing their schedules now with all the flights available is a sign that they don't plan on reducing service. Now they are having competition from Southwest in Philadelphia, which is another major hub (the other hub Charlotte). If they do cancel your flight, they would have to give you a refund.

I wouldn't look at Air Tran as a sure thing either. They pulled out service to Philadelphia with about 1 days notice a couple years ago. They used to fly to Chicago, they pulled that also.

I agree with Nick, if you can find a good deal I would go with it and hope for the best.

I normally fly USAir from Binghamton, connecting in Pitt, and continuing to MCO. I have noticed in searching flights that there are no longer any afternoon flights leaving MCO. I could leave around noon, and the next flight is around 6pm. Ugh.

Nick, how did you get $227 for X-mas week? I tried right at 330, and kept getting $370-$540 pp. Can I ask what flights you got?

I called right at midnight on the 331 day.We have the morning flight on x-mas eve.We then return on New Years day.

My sister lives in West Palm Beach, so we have non-stop from Pittsburgh-WPB. Then we are driving up to OKW(WDW) for 3 days. Then our return is from WPB to Pittsburgh non-stop. We are there for 8 nights.

When I first decided to go to Disney I was going to book my entire trip as a package via WDW. I would have to take a commuter plane from a nearby airport to Pittsburgh then to Orlando.

When I got all my info put in to get a quote from Disney I was told I'd have to pay for the airfare in full up front, plus the $200 deposit that Disney charges when you book a package.

I taked to my brother in law who told me this didn't seem right. With the uncertainty of US Air and Pittsburgh he was afraid that we'd pay over $300 a ticket round trip per person and end up not being able to use US Air. Therefore we'd be out over $1200 in airfare. I called WDW to see why I would have to pay in full up front for a non refundable ticket. I was told that this was US Air's decision. Normally customers who book via Disney only pay a $200 deposit, but they couldn't do that with us.

Disney gave us only one option for flying. That was the US Air deal.

We decided to go with another airline. The rates were $100 per person roundtrip cheaper than US Air. The total travel time was 1/2 of what US Air offered.

I like the Pittsburgh airport. I've never had problems with US Air. I just got a bad feeling when I got that quote. That would be awful to book an expensive vacation so far in advance only to find out that you can't have your flight anymore and won't get your money back.

That is not true. You would be put on another flight or airline. You would also be entitled to your money back(from US AIR) if it was put on a credit card.
