Please help...I am as we speak attempting to secure dining reservations for our party of 11. I booked for 6, then went back to book for 5 but it won't let me keep both reservations...I can't even book the 2nd one for 15 minutes later. What do I do??

Another vote for needing a different name. We did this in order to secure Topolino's for 6...nothing was available for 6, but we could get reservations for 3. Booked them with one in my name, one in my son's name and then when we checked in we asked nicely if possible, could we at least get two tables as close together as possible since we really were one party. Pixie dust...we ended up at a table for 6.

Have any of you who are recommending booking two reservations with a different person as lead on one of them actually tried to do this lately? I used to do this all the time but the system no longer allows me to choose a different person as the lead name. Please tell me how you are making two reservations online or in app since this loophole was closed. No one else in my travel party has their own MDE account.

OP- call the reservation line. They will help you with a large party.

This is probably the issue right there tbh. As long as people are linked under friends and family having 2 ADRs under two different guest names is not an issue.

Tbh everyone going should have their own account, even if just one person is managing everything. It just makes things so much easier. But in 2024 having 1 person in charge of an entire massive group is a recipe for unnecessary headaches imo.

I agree with this. Call in.

But also this used to be so much easier when they had the Grand Gatherings. You could set those up including people who weren't even staying in Disney or going to the parks...like the Fireworks Cruise. There is no special department for this now, but there really needs to be.

I am the only Disney trip planner in my extended family and amongst my friends who I take along on occasion. I have three reasons off the top of my head as to why I manage everyone I travel with.

1) I'm not making separate accounts for small children. I'm not sure that's even allowed.

2) People who only plan on going once don't want to deal with their own accounts.

3) It actually can cause additional headaches when someone has their own account but does not participate in any of the planning. For example, one person that I travel with insisted on having their own account but never is part of planning. At times, some joint plans have ended up being listed on their MDE but not on mine, even though I'm the one that made the plan/reservation. This means that I have to log out of my account and then log into their account to manage (or in some cases through the years, even see) those plans. It's super annoying to go back and forth signing in and out of more than one account.

We had this issue when trying to book at a restaurant at Downtown Disney using MDE. It has to be different names and we needed for 9 people. Were advised to use Open Table and make 2 reservations under different names, as even they had a max of 8. Then get there early and let them know we're together, worked perfectly. I think the trick tho was to get there extra early to let the staff know needs. We also made reservation for like 6 & 3 just in case we couldn't actually get table for 9. Also we didn't have enough for "large party" assist as for this restaurant that was 25 people.

Try to make the 2nd reservation under one of the other diner's names. The dining system is probably looking at it like a duplicate reservation for your party.
Yes, thank you! I had to wake my daughter up to make the other reservation for all of us...no problems with any that followed. Thanks again for the tip. Had it not been 5 AM, perhaps I would have come to that conclusion on my own LOL

Best Trip Planner decision I ever made was having every single person over 18 that I travel with make their own Disney account when I send them my friend request. Traveling with me for 1 day? Cool. Make the account. Nobody has never said no or complained, we make online accounts for everything now lol. Then, I can link them to everything and no issues and when my app goes to heck they can whip theirs out. And when something happens between them and Disney (can’t use ticket or something), it is under their control for 10 years down the road when they finally have use for it again.

^^ We did something similar when traveling with 2 other families. Each ROOM setup their own MDE account which made planning MUCH easier. Our experience was that every person did NOT need their own account and if you someone isn't good using their PC they can easily mess up (or delete) things if they push the wrong buttons. Add everyone you will be traveling with as 'friends & family' or whatever Disney calls that, so one person can make ADR's for the entire group. One night we wanted to split up to eat at different restaurants, so each party made their own. MDE can be glitchy at times and as I recall some things didn't work right initially even though we thought each account had been setup exactly the same. We called Disney and they were able to fix something in the account that wasn't obvious to us. Saved a lot of time instead of the 'try this/try that' method where you waste a lot of time and it still may not work right.

Yes, I've called Disney IT many times and have always found them helpful, even when I've done something stupid like duplicating myself! So I wouldn't hesitate to call them when needed.

I also concur with having each family group create its own MDE account and then link everyone as F&F to the other accounts.
