URGENT hair question...please help

Hi,
I am coming from Australia in May and have luckily realised that I cannot use my GHD hair straightener in the US due to voltage differences....so I have decided to buy a cheap US hair straightener online if I can, to take with me so that it will DEFINATELY work!!! Anyway, please tell me which is a good cheapish US straightener that doesnt take too long to heat up and gives good results fairly quickly. Hope someone is able to give me some advice. Thanks heaps!!!

Hi, I'm sorry, I don't know about hair straighteners, my hair is bone straight, and fine and limp - I pay lots of money for perms to have curyly hair But, I wanted to suggest something. Florida is very, very humid, and it is known to rain or sprinkle at the drop of a hat, and then the rides get you wet. Maybe it would be good just to tie your hair up and not have to spend much time on your hair Maybe you know how to keep it that way - if you have a great hair spray could you let me know? Thanks!

I agree with magicfor2, it is very difficlt to keep hair straight in Florida. I have tried.

Remmington makes nice flat irons, but really in Florida, hair won't stay very straight. I'd suggest just using some leave in conditioner and some hair gel on damp hair in the moringing and putting it up.

I am with the other posters. I have my hair permanately straightened and it still frizzes in the Florida humidity. Conair has a decent cheapy straightener, but generally by noon your hair will succum to the weather (or water rides!)

Well, some of us will still try to have "sleek" hair at the World...

I actually have straight hair, it just needs an extra boost. I think my cheap one is a Clairol...but to be honest, I actually wouldn't count on it to work well. Ever since I bought my chi, I can't go back to the cheap one. BUT...here are some other ideas....
1. Can you buy a converter plug so you can bring your Aussie one? I know I have converter plugs for my (not so frequent...okay, it was just one) trips to Europe.
2. Redken has a great product named Straight that is a lightweight balm you apply to damp hair. Very helpful, and I'm only slightly biased as a former Redken engineer.
3. Chi makes a great spray for dry hair, prior to straightening. I'm sure you can get both products in Australia, right?

Oh, and Magicfor2....Redken and Kenra both have some great hairsprays. I prefer Kenra now because Redken aerosols seem to have clogging problems with the nozzles (and you can't remove them to unclog). Both of these are at salons, but I think worth the price.

I'm a native Floridian and I use a cheap conair straightener and biosilk straightening product and I am pleased with the results all day.

The BEST straightener is called HOT TOOLS. You can buy them at beauty supply stores or even at places like Wal Mart or Target. They get VERY hot fast, which I'm sure you know is KEY for straightening. I've tried the Revlon one and other of the "major" brands that usually make shampoo and nail polish...they just don't get hot enough.

Go for Hot Tools...they have a gold plate in them with black plastic handles and purple lettering...

but alas, as everyone else said...keeping your hair straight in Florida is pretty much a lost cause. I looked like Little Orphan Annie during my honeymoon...the ringlets and curls I straighten so meticulously in my "real" life just do NOT want to be denied while at Disney. You can try, but the humidity is SO going to win!

Baseball caps are GREAT!

Try http://www.walkabouttravelgear.com/index.htm for a power converter, so you can use the straightener you have. I do have to agree with the other posts that recommend biting the bullet and leaving your hair alone... I live in FL. I deal with my waves. As long as I'm inside ALL DAY I can keep it straight, but 10 minutes outside and all my hard work, undone.

I have VERY frizzy/curly hair and I know it's hard to keep straight here in Florida. I use a Maxius hair straightener and to keep it frizz free I use Garnier Fructis Sleek and Shine weightless anti-frizz serum. This actually DID survive an entire day outside in the Florida humidity and I live in South Florida so I am amazed everyday my hair stays straight

Of course the water rides may not cooperate so I usually where my hair up during the day and then straighten it for a night out at Disney.

So I would recommend Maxius, though I have no idea how cheap it is since mine was a Christmas present.

I straighten my hair every day. It does not cooperate too much at WDW. I still straighten it every morning and make sure I get our family pictures taken by the photo CM's there in the am. Then by lunch my hair is back in a pony or 2. I know....A little vain, huh?

I did the SAME thing on my honeymoon!! I'd drag my DH to every photopass place we wanted FIRST THING and he'd be saying "Umm..honey I thought we were going to eat..." and I'd have to remind him that my hair was going to last FIVE MINUTES so we had to hurry!!!! On the ONE day that we waited...in Animal Kingdom, somehow the hottest, muggiest place at WDW...I looked like a crazy little orphan Annie...was not amused! Even my husband said "Wow babe...your hair looks nuts in these pictures!" Nice...thanks hun...

My hair never stays straight in Disney either. It's just too humid. If you want to give it a try though, Conair makes a really good straightener and it's also pretty inexpensive.

I live in Louisiana which is just as humid as Florida. I use a Chi iron and I love it. But it was over $100. I would try one of the previous mentioned ones on this post. As for keeping it straight, the products you put in it before and after you iron are what helps to fend off the humidity. I have VERY curly hair and wear it straight all the time. Get a serum or pommade that is an Anti-Humectant and you should be good to go.
