I've run into a snag with my touring plan. I thought we'd have time to see the Osborn Family Lights and have dinner at the Yachtsman, but... I think we won't be able to do both. I am thinking about scraping the Yachtsman (which I thought my husband would like) and going to Mama Melrose instead. It isn't as expensive, and it is in DHS.

I have never eaten at either restaurant, and I do understand they are very different, but... Switching would be the difference between seeing Fantasmic AND the lights or just going to a fancy dinner instead. Thoughts? Restaurant reviews? Please help. I've only got days to finish this plan up.

We have eaten at Mama Melrose 3 times. We love it! The atmosphere is wonderful and the food (and sangria) are yummy. They also give you bread to start with which we enjoy to keep our DD settled. We have always had good service as well :)

Of all the parks.. the Osborne Lights are my favorite Christmas event! Seeing it in pictures does not even come close :santa:

We have never eaten at the Yachtsman, to be fair, but still to me it's a no-brainer. My dh loved Mama Melrose, now we have to go there every trip. I didn't go as crazy for it as he did, but I thought it was very good food. And if it means the difference between seeing the Osborne lights and Fantasmic as well, then it should be a simple choice. I assume you would be getting the Fantasmic dining package if you go to Mama Melrose?

Fantasmic is sold out at Mama Melrose, so... We'll be watching the 6:30 PM show and then going to dinner. After that, we'll stroll the streets and see the lights. I did cancel Yachtsman. Thanks for the quick replies. I am sure the boys will love it, and I do love Italian. Yachtsman is on my list of places to go someday. Just didn't fit the touring plan for this year.

If you've never seen the Lights of Fantasmic before, then go with Mama Melrose.

Yachstman is an excellent meal, far better than MM, but for a first time experience, I would not want to miss Osborne Lights and Fantasmic.

We loved MM. We had our first experience there in June and it was delicious. The pasta is fairly ordinary but the steak was delicious, the antipasto platter was something a bit different and the chef worked with our son to find a wonderful treat for him when his dietary restrictions didn't allow him to eat the normal kids foods.

There is our review with some pictures HERE.

Hope this helps some. :)

Thank you all again. That review was great! I just checked it out. I am so excited about the desserts! They looked great. I really appreciate the help.

Be sure to ask for Kristina as your server @ Mama Melrose she is one of the best!:goodvibes

Did you check for a Fantasmic package at Hollywood Brown Derby? To me, this is the best of both worlds. You get an excellent meal, plus you get to see Fantasmic & the lights. Otherwise, you made a good choice. The OL are a must see, IMO. I wouldn't miss the lights for any meal at WDW, even V&A. I could eat at V&A any time of year. That isn't the case for OL.
