Urgent airline help please

Has anyone used Spirit airlines? I have to take a short trip and the other airlines jumped up in price on me.

We used to use Spirit on a regular basis. We never had any problems with lost luggage or being bumped, but we frequently bought exit row seats for the leg room. They now nickle & dime you, making you pay for carry-on luggage, checked luggage, seat assignments, etc.

DISCLAIMER: We don't use them anymore for two main reasons: 1) SW bought Air Tran so we can reschedule without penalty. 2) We have the Delta Amex card and get free checked luggage. Of minor consideration was the fact that Spirit has very little leg room & I was tired of my knees in someone else's back.

Yes, others have used Spirit, and there is a discussion regarding them two posts above this one :).

How important is price based on the amount of fees you may incur for other things (seating, luggage, snacks, etc) and your time should a flight get canceled? You may want to look at the other Spirit threads on the more recent two or three pages of the Transportation board, and you'll see these topics widely discussed.

The only way I (flying out of LBE) would book Spirit again is if i didn't have to necessarily be somewhere on a specific day, let alone time.

We sat for over 10 hours waiting for a plane that had several equipment delays. Once we went through security could hear that they cancelling the flight that was supposed to depart an hour after ours. Sitting for so l ong in the terminal we learned that many of the passengers were going into FLL for a cruise the next day. There were no Spirit flights for another two days to FLL.:faint: Unless these folks were able to drive to PIT and find a late connection or early the next day they were out of luck catching the ship as at that point they couldn't even try to make the drive in time.
 

Please be aware that Spirit does NOT have any interline agreements with any other airline.

If your plane goes tech you will not be put on another carrier, nor be given compensation to do so.

You will be put on the next available flight..and that means the next flight there is room...not the next flight.

There are horror stories where people have waited days to get on a flight after theirs got cancelled.

That is why I would never consider them, my vaca time is very valuable to me to take the risk..though in all fairness many people never encounter a problem with them.
