Dress code at upscale restaurants -
Do men have to wear jackets or can they where a 'golf shirt'/'izod type shirt' ?
What to place on your feet ? Dress shoes or clean sneakers ?

Upscale resort restaurants change dress code to Business Casual! No hats, swim suits, swim suit coveralls, tank tops, T-shirts, torn clothing or flip-flops. You can wear - dress shorts, pants, jean pants, collared shirts, blouses, sweaters, pants. Restaurants now requiring Business Casual include: Artist Point (Wilderness Lodge), California Grill (Contemporary), Citricos and Narcoossee's (Grand Floridian), Jiko (Animal Kingdom Lodge), Flying Fish (Boardwalk), and Yachtsman Steakhouse (Yacht Club).

Thanks :dog:

We ate at Narcoosees last week and my two sons wore nice bermuda length cargo shorts and one wore a polo type shirt and one an open button down shirt with a plain T underneath. Clean sneaks. They fit in fine. There seemed to be a range of dress for both men and women that night anywhere from nice shorts and shirts to gown and suits. Didn't see any men in regular T's with designs or women in regular shorts, and no tanks etc at all. There were flip flops though :rotfl: .

The dress code is a joke. My DD and I had an ADR at Flying Fish on the night of our arrival (Saturday night). When our luggage hadn't yet shown up we called and changed to a later time as we didn't feel that our travel attire met the dress code requirements. After we got our luggage we dressed for dinner and off we went. We were very surprised to see at least half of the diners in what I would call park attire. I had no problem with what anyone was wearing, but it seemed a waste of time for the CM making ADR's to stress the dress code when it appeared no one really cared. I was still glad we dressed for dinner as it made it seem extra special for us but don't feel like you can't go there if you're not dressed up.

When I made our ADR's for our October trip, the CM did not mention the new dress code, even tho' I saw it here within a day or two. That said, for our dinner at YSH we will try to dress accordingly.
DH will wear chino's, a nice "Hawaiian" sport shirt and nice leather Teva's. DS will wear chino's a sport shirt and his "flip flops". He insists he is not bringing other shoes :-) ? :-) . I will wear nice slacks and a shirt.
I think we will be okay, even with the flip flop King. :rotfl:
Any opinions?

You must keep in mind that this is a suggestion and not a requirement. They are not going to turn you away if you have shorts/park attire on.

You will see people in the restaurants you mentioned dressed in anything from shorts/sneakers to khakis/tommy bahama style shirt or polo shirt for men (capris/tops or sundresses for women) right on up to suits. Don't get wrapped around the ankles and over pack....you can have great meals dressed in jeans or shorts.

We had dinner at the California Grill the other night and noticed quite a few male guests wearing t-shirts and many wearing flips flops as well. We also saw a few people dressed in jackets and cocktail dresses with high heels. I think that the extremely dressed up people looked out of place. My husband and son had on bermudas with a short sleeved button down top and my daughter and I wore long cotton skirts with dressy flip flops. We felt that we fit in. We also noticed very casually dressed people at the Flying Fish. I really don't think that they will turn anyone away; I planned every aspect of my trip to Disney based upon the wonderful advice of this board and a small amount of advice from a guide book. I would imagine that some people who aren't the type to do research wouldn't know that they need to follow a dress code.

That detailed description of the dress code was quoted to me in July when I made ARs for our October trip.

I just made ARs for January and no detail was given....just business casual.
This was for Citricos, CG, Artist Point and Jiko. I also made one for Narcoossee's and was not told business casual for that one this time although I suppose it could have been an oversight on the CM's or I just missed it. :earseek:

Anyway, the only place where a man needs a jacket is V&A. You will see some guests wearing jackets at all the other places named but in our experience they are in the minority.

I've made ARs at some of those places and not one CM mentioned this to me, but I do remember reading it on the boards.
