I thought I would run this by my budget-conscience buddies.

I had to ship a very large (art) print. I went to UPS and got a price of $47.00 (including $600 insurance). I looked at the tag that was used to send it to me several years ago and it was for $19.00. So I said no thanks and high-tailed it over the the USPS. $20.00 including the same insurance for the same ground shipping. Big difference. No more UPS for me. :teeth:

I've had problems with UPS lately breaking items too. I think they aren't being as careful as they used to be.

I just hope your postal service is better than ours. I wouldn't trust them with anything valuable... sentimental or monetary.

I have never had any problems with UPS, Fed Ex, etc. But the postoffice has given us fits for years.

Good luck - I hope it works out for you! You definitely saved a chunk of change. :)

Well I hope it will be allright. It was well packed and arrived at my sister's house (but she was not home) yesterday. She will pick it up at the post office tomorrow. It is insured, but I still hope it will be ok!

i cant TELL you how many times UPS has burned me. there motto is "what can brown do for you?" and my friend always says "what can brown do for me? Take their head out of their..." aaanyway...

USPS here is great. stuff always arrives faster than they say it will. and FedEx is the next best thing. and fedex does free pick-ups, im pretty sure UPS charged $5.

I have had the opposite experience. UPS has been great and our USPS has lost 2 items I sent within just a couple of months of each other then I sent 5 letters (comp rebates) cert and 2 made it there and the other 3 where in limbo for a couple of weeks. Then went the wrong place and finally about a month later ended up at the correct destination.
If I ship or mail anything of value its just UPS now.

Receiving packages...I have trouble with both. And on Saturday, I wanted to scream as I watched my mailman walking down our walkway in a rainstorm holding some mail in his hand with his mailbag hanging off his shoulder - wide open - so that all the mail was just getting wet. I know it's raining, but can't you make some attempt to protect the mail? GEESH!!

Shipping things...I pretty much always use USPS and haven't really had many problems.

The one perk of UPS is that your package is tracked through the entire shipping process. Even if you pay for delivery confirmation on a USPS package, that only tells you when it's delivered and now where it is along the way which is of no help if a package gets lost (dealing with currently).

USPS, although not perfect, is more cost effective in many items than USPS.

Usually the heavier and bulkier the item, the better for UPS.

I like USPS.

Well this was a pretty heavy and VERY bulky item, and $27 more with UPS. Makes you wonder what the rhyme or reason is.:confused3

Anywhoo, the package was picked up today at the post office and in perfect condition.

Phhheeeewwww.
