There was a thread a bit ago about med's being left outside the door and it not being there.

Last night after we got back from DD's parent orientation I notice an envelope behind our chair by our front door. We usually don't go in through the front door but through the garage door.

I get the envelope and notice that the return address is a credit card company. My DH Company CC was in it. He is traveling out of the country soon and his old one expired. It was sitting there for I don't know how long. UGH!

I know that UPS (and Fed Ex) does this to save money and that most people work but I was home yesterday. All day!

Oh well, it turned out okay in the end.

Edit: I was out in the morning. I had to take DS to the Pedi. They probably delivered it then. Oh well.

They did it to us with a check we were waiting for of $1000. WE were not happy. Fortunately my younger daughter saw they envelope and brought it in.

yep they did that me last ( Fed Ex though) with the checks from our home Refi!!!

They just left it under the mat.

I had a box of clothes left out last night becasue we didn't know it was there. DH found them when he went out the front door this morning. I think I would be really upset if it was $$$!

If I get a UPS package and am not at home, the driver leaves a form saying there was an attempted delivery and to sign the back of the form if I want to have it left at the door when the 2nd delivery attempt is made.

I know my opinion on this may not be the popular one, but here is my .02 cents

UPS and Fedex are in the business of making money. Could you imagine how much money it would cost to attempt to deliver packages 3,4,5 times to one address? Anytime I have something shipped home, I expect it to just be sitting there on my doorstep. No one in my neighborhood is home and I wouldn't expect the Fedex man to walk around door to door trying to deliver my package. If I were getting a $1000 check, i'd make sure it was sent to an address where I worked or where someone was going to be home.

I know $13 is a lot to overnight a package, but it's not enough to pay for hand to hand delivery all the time. I know there is someone else on these boards that gets medicine which needs to be refrigerated, and I do feel bad for this person that whatever special handling instructions are not followed, but again, i'd have the package go to a "Mailboxes Etc.,". If I didn't get my stuff right after the 4th or 5th time, it's time to try something different.

well IMHO they could at least ring the doorbell!

DH was home and he would have gladly taken it.
Thats what they usually do here, ring the doorbell first.

Home delivery costs more than delivery to a business. That's why when I have something shipped, it is always to work. I am sure the delivery companies take into account that they may have to make more than one attempt to a residential address and adjust rates accordingly.

Once I sent a package to my mom's new address. I thought the street was Autumn and it was actually Auburn. UPS delivered the package to ANOTHER TOWN with an Autumn St. They left it at the office to an apartment complex, no signature. I was livid. It took quite a while to locate that package and have it re-delivered. I was really surprised that they were able to locate it at all.

I ordered a laptop and some peripheral parts. There was a note that I would have to pickup a package at the depot. Well, the package was the peripheral parts. Two days later they left laptop on the doorstep without any signature.

Fed Ex just delivered an 8ft cylinder to me. I was confused as to what could have been in it. I signed for it and realized that it wasn't mine. Luckily the driver hadn't pulled away. I would have had someone elses package if they had just left it (but if the driver would have left, I would have gone over to the next street and delivered it to the correct house myself.)::yes::

Our UPS guy doesn't leave packages. Which is a good thing because he is adorable and I like to chat with him. The guy that delivers for him on his days off just leaves the packages though. And he is not cute I might add.

My UPS guy rings the bell and walks away. Just as well, my dog goes ballistic when she sees those brown trucks (and only UPS, not Fed ex or anything else, go figure...) so I can't safely open the door to get the package till he drives away!

Sometimes when you order something you can ask them to add a note to the package, for example on packages from Lands's End I always include a note saying "if no answer leave on front porch" because I have a sheltered safe porch.

Of course, that doesn't mean they'll pay attention- I nearly ran over a huge box that was left outside my garage door- in the rain. Never mind that the covered porch is literally 15 feet away down a clear sidewalk... Luckily my son saw the box and stopped me before I backed over it!

Both companies used to find neighbors that were home to leave the packages. My old next neighbor worked for UPS and the only phrase she knew in Spanish was "Would you hold this package for your neighbor?" She delivered to mainly Hispanic area in Houston.

Now a days, both companies have stopped this practice unless the sender requires a signature. I guess I was surprised the a CC company wouldn't require one. Lands End does. They wouldn't leave my slippers on the front door. I had to sign for them. LOL

DH did not inform me that this or the other package were to be delivered. I was home for the CD's. I had to sign for those. He can't have things delivered to work without a huge hassle. I used to pick him up for lunch once a week. Now we just meet somewhere. I pretty much have to leave one of my children as collateral. LOL

I hope that everyone has a great day.

Any other company that I receive deliveries from doesn't leave the items if no one is home. They leave a slip that either tells me where to pick it up, or a number to call to have them arrange a time to deliver it.
