Upromise- are you using it?

I'd like to hear from anyone who's using it. Both pros and cons. Thanks!
I joined when they first started. I linked my store loyalty cards and did very little shopping through their portal. I ended up with about $100 per child for the three kids. It was a painless way to get a few extra dollars for their college expenses. I had no problem withdrawing the money when the time came to cash out for each child.

we do - used to use the Upromise credit card, but switched over to the Disney one because we preferred those Disney dollars :) I linked the Disney Card to our Upromise account, so we still earn UPromise dollars on qualifying purchases. I try to remember to shop through UPromise around Holiday time when I shop online more frequently- but sometimes forget. In the 13 years since we first signed on, we have accumulated about $5,400 distributed among 3 children.

I joined years ago. I used to make a little money on groceries and gas each month, but that went away a few years ago. We also made $200 when we bought a car once. Now I occasionally make money on eating out and the occasional online purchase if I remember to link through there (which I usually don't). But, any money earned is money toward school. No cons that I know of.

I have done fairly regular linking for individual online purchases for a few years. I have not linked other credit or store loyalty cards. Have made about $500. I just got it by check to me, though, didn't bother with setting up child accounts or waiting for college bills. we have 529 Plans set up through another source, so not worth the trouble to me to set up another 529 account to link for college.

Got the Mastercard (with a sign up bonus), but usually use it only for those Upromise-linked online purchases that earn 5%+extra, and at Sam's Club which, last I checked, only accepts MC.

I haven't had any trouble getting the money (I wait until accumulate 100$ or more before requesting check). They don't send too much junk email.

I had thought about using this to pay down my loans, but I figured there must be some catch or trouble.

So, can I use my Discover card with this? I really don't want their card. If so, do they just track what is a qualifying purchase and give me the money?

Thanks!

you can use any credit card, just have to either go through the Upromise shopping portal or use the internet browser toolbar to get credit. You can also link your credit card to the dining rewards program and for that dining at a participating restaurant will get you the credit.

I've been using this for 7 years now and even though I'm a very active online shopper have accumulated about $800, so it really won't make much of a dent in most loans. I think if you can get your friends and family to use the shopping portal and credit to you, it will add up a lot faster.

Thanks for the info. I think I am going to try it. Even if I only get $5, that's $5 I don't have to pay!

We joined years ago when it was fairly new. Linked my Shaw's (grocery chain) card to it and occasionally remembered to do online shopping through their portal. DH and I both had accounts. With NO effort and no Upromise credit cards and never using the dining options, we managed to rack up about $90 in each account.... and it only took about 12+ years!!:rotfl2:

I cashed it out last year for a little extra pocket money for a Disney trip. I haven't checked it in months, but our Shaw's closed and no other stores around here use a shopping card, so I figure my days if earning are done. I get better deals shopping through other portals (SWA Rapid Rewards for one). But it was certainly an easy painless way to earn a few extra $$.................P

We have about $130 in an account that we started years ago. It was great when it first started you could use your store rewards cards and get credit for baby purchases. Once they started the CC thing we got away from it.

Last year when it was about to go dormant I reset it. We were going to put in our own CC for the rewards but we did not as of yet.

I signed up several years ago and didn't do a particularly good job of keeping track or linking things. I earned $183 by the time I requested a check last fall when DD went off to college. It was painless, but I'm not sure I'd do it again. Lots of unwanted e-mail, etc.

I signed up, and was able to get a check easily when D started college.

We made the most when I bought all the office supplies for the business by starting at UPromise.
