upgrading your hotel?

hi all

like the title suggests has anyone decided when you arrive at your original resort to try and upgraded to one of the moderates?

we are staying at all star movies in october and to pay virgins price is more than we can afford,so i was wondering(this actually worries my dh when i say that)with the exchange rate would it work out cheaper to do this when we arrive and pay in $$ providing there is availability of course
anyone done this?
