Upgrading UT tickets to DVC AP

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I could not find the answer. I purchased tickets from UT to upgrade to a DVC annual pass. I know you need to use the tickets at least once so they will be worth gate value upon upgrade. I assumed that no matter when you upgrade them; day 1 or day 7 of using the tickets the start date of the annual pass would be the day of your first use; not the day you upgraded them. Well, my aunt tells me she upgraded tickets to APs after using the days on her ticket and the date on the AP was the date of her upgrade. Is this how it works or is my aunt confused or maybe lucky!

Lucky if it was the day of the upgrade and not the day of first use.

Sounds like she got a little "pixie dust." Normally the AP will be backdated to the first day you used the MYW ticket. (Might as well upgrade the first day and take advantage of the various AP discounts.)
