Upgrading to concierge upon check-in?

Hi,

Have you ever been offered the chance to upgrade to Concierge Level when checking in? If so, what season, resort and how much was the upgrade fee per night?

We were not intersted in concierge level until we heard about the Sunrise and Sunset Safari at AKL where will be staying for 8 nights in January 2006. We are thinking maybe we can take our chances and upgrade for our last 3 nights once we arrive.

I have stayed concierge, but have never been upgraded upon check-in. Your chances are probably better if since you are travelling during a slower time of the year, however, AKL concierge is very popular, so it would depend on if it was already full.

If the sunrise/sunset safari is the only reason you want to book concierge, you might want to ask some specific questions about that. I know that they are only offered on certain days, bookings begin at 90 days out and there are a limited number of spots. You may want to check and see how often these two do sell out. It would be shame to upgrade for that reason alone and find out that they don't have any availability.

Ask at check-in if there are concierge rooms available and what the additional fee will be.

I've done this at the Wilderness Lodge. It was actually less expensive for me to stay concierge by doing it this way, as opposed to booking it upfront.

We tried that during our last stay at the CR and was told we would have to pay RACK RATE per day for the concierge. No thanks!
