Upgrading to AP

We currently have a free dining trip scheduled for December. I was thinking of upgrading my 6 day park hopper to an AP. Trying to figure out an estimated cost to upgrade. I am coming out at about $223.99. Took the approximate cost of ticket and added in credit for memory maker and subtracted that from pass. Not a FL resident and not doing the plus that includes water parks. That just seems too good to be true. I’m thinking I’m off. Can someone help me understand upgrading?

I'm no expert, but we went to Guest Relations to inquire about upgrading our 7 day PH while we were at HS a couple weeks back and she quoted the difference closer to $500 a person (before the MM credit). We didn't end up doing it then because it was so high. If it had been closer to your figure, I would have signed up then and there ;)

Your math is correct if you prepaid for memory maker.

A Platinum AP including tax is $904.19.

A six day PH ticket is $480, plus $169 for Memory Maker, plus $31.20 tax, for a total of $680.20.

$904.19 - $680.20 = $223.99

Not pre-paying for Memory Maker would add an additional $179.99 to the cost of upgrading, for a total of $403.98.

What is the preferred procedure to upgrade your tickets to an AP? Before you use the ticket? Middle of your trip? Does it matter when you do it? If I have a 5 day ticket, and want to upgrade after 3 days, do I lose those 3 days in the cost to upgrade?

That seems like she...did it wrong?

I'm expecting around $400 with tax when I go off of a 6 day PH.

Question - when do AP costs go up generally? Have they already for the year? Or should I expect an increase in December?

It used to be that it was important to use your ticket at least one day before upgrading, because Disney would give you current value for your ticket...which was a big deal for people who had purchased their tickets before a price increase, in a previous year, at a discount from a retailer, etc. Disney cut that out recently, however, and now you simply get the "trade-in" value that you paid for the ticket when you bought it.

You will not lose any "value" by upgrading earlier or later in your trip. You'll be credited with the full value of the ticket either way.

One thing to think about is the perks of the tickets you hold versus the perks of the AP you're upgrading to. Some AP's have blockout dates, in which case you wouldn't want to upgrade until your last day. Conversely, if you're using a standard, one park per day ticket, you may want to upgrade on the first day to allow you to park hop for the remainder of your trip.

Lots of things to think about.

1. Before you use the ticket?
2. Middle of your trip?
3. Does it matter when you do it? If
4. I have a 5 day ticket, and want to upgrade after 3 days, do I lose those 3 days in the cost to upgrade?

1. Doesn't affect the cost.
2. Doesn't affect the cost.
3. Nope. Doesn't affect the cost.

4. Nope. Doesn't affect the cost.
And the REASON is... that they will back-date the AP starting date (Anniversary date)
to the date that you first used the original ticket.
THAT's what makes it an "upgrade" of the original ticket.
It makes it as though you had bought the AP in the first place.

This!

But also remember that you only pay for MM once. So one perso. Would be 223.99. Everyone else would be the 403.98 price difference.

I get $392.99 as the cost to Upgrade CURRENT 2018 6 day PH Tickets to AP

$904.19 Platinum AP
-$511.20 6 day PH
=$392.99

Is there no tax on the Memory Maker package?

ETA...apparently, there is no tax on that package, which is where the additional $10.99 came from.
