Upgrading to AP (clarification)

I have an 8 Day PH ticket, purchased through Disney as part of a package. I purchased it BEFORE the most recent price increase and part of a Buy X days, get one free promotion (I think for booking early or something).

BUT, if I understand correctly, as long as I enter the park one day, and then upgrade to an annual pass, none of the above matters.

I'd pay the (Current Price of AP) - (Current price of 8 day PH) correct?
From the Disney website (with tax included) 696.51 - 435.59 (for a total of 260.92).
