We are wondering what is the last day you can upgrade to an AP and is the annual pass good from that date. We bought 5 day hopper passes and will be checking out on the 7th of sept., will this be the new date or will it start on the 2nd of sept.? And do you just pay the difference from what you paid for the hopper passes to the annual pass price?
Thanks

You can upgrade at any time, but the date of the AP will be start on the date you use the 5 day hopper. So if you enter a park on 9/2 and don't upgrade to APs until 9/6, the AP is dated back to the 2nd. You are correct that you pay the difference between what you paid for the 5 day hopper and the cost of the AP. HTH :).

You only get the pro-rated amount that is left on the ticket.
1/5 of a five day hopper towards the AP.

Last time I upgraded my hopper to AP I'm fairly sure I only paid the difference between full price of hopper and AP cost. :confused3

This is wrong. The AP will be backdated to the first use of the ticket as its start date and you will be credited the full gate price of the ticket you started with towards the AP price.

Because they back-date it, it makes sense to upgrade your first day so you can take advantage of AP discounts during your vacation and buy a TIW card if you want to save on your dining.

Also, if you have WP&M loaded onto your ticket, and do not want to get an PAP, make sure you don't use your non-AP ticket at a WP--you will only be able to get a PAP when you convert the ticket.

Mostly good advice in this thread so far.

Use your ticket at least once to enter a park before doing the upgrade and you will get credit for the full gate price of the ticket toward the AP. If the tickets being upgraded have a name on them--like on the KTTW card--then you have 14 days after first use to do the upgrade. If your tickets don't have a name printed on them--like tickets bought from UT or just from Disney through the mail or online--then you have 14 days to do the upgrade BUT you must still have entitlements active on the ticket to do the upgrade. So in your case you could do the upgrade on your fifth park day but not the day after.

The expiration date on your APs should be one year from the date the original ticket was first used. As a result there's no benefit to waiting until the last day and actually, as a PP has noted, if you do it your first day you can get the merchandise discounts, buy a TiW card, etc. and have those benefits for your entire trip.
