I think this was discussed a bit a few months ago but I have a question regarding upgrading your ticket to an AP. If I purchased 3 day park to park from UT I should be able to take those to a ticket counter at US/IOA and upgrade them to an AP, no matter that I did not purchase them directly from Universal because UT is a licensed vendor correct? And the appropriate charge I should expect to pay will be from taking the gate price of the chosen AP (as of that day)and subtracting what the gate price of a 3 day park to park (as of that day) regardless of what I actually paid for the ticket correct? If this is the case is it better to do the upgrade before we use the tickets for the first time (blackout dates I'm not worried about) or use the tickets once and then do the upgrade?

We purchased from UT, Buy 2 Get 1 day free tickets, we just got home yesterday and upgraded to AP's no problem. They charged us the difference between 3 day P2P tickets (even though we only paid for 2 days) and the Power Pass AP's and 1 preferred since we wanted to add free parking (esp for our next trip). We had 4 adult/1 child ticket and paid a little less than $200 for them to be upgraded: 4 power pass (3 a/1c) and 1 Preferred (1a). We upgraded on our 2nd day, so not sure if it matters what day as long as you do it before you leave the parks on your last day!

Thank you for your reply! We have the same exact tickets and also have 3A and 1C. I just remember someone posting earlier that they tried and were told either they could't do it or they they would have to pay the difference going off what they actually paid for the tickets and the reason was because "they were a 3rd party vendor" or something.

Yes I had budgeted about $300 for the upgrade on our 5 tickets to all power pass based on what we paid to UT, so I was happy at a little less than $200! I am sure it depends on who you get. The guy that helped us was super helpful and polite and told us about the Amex lounge that was available since we had paid with the Amex card we had just got at USO lol

I wouldn't take them to a ticket booth. I would take them to guest services after you have used them at least once.

Good catch Damo, that's what I was thinking in my head but I couldn't remember!

We just upgraded 3 day tickets (the UT "buy 2, get one free" promotion) to preferred passes on June 9th. They definitely bridged the price, no questions asked. I was given a "credit" of $224.99 for each adult ticket and $214.99 for each child ticket for the 3 day tickets. I paid $196.21 each for the adult tickets and $186.22 each for the child tickets through UT, so we had a nice little $115 savings right there. I did it at Guest Services on the last day of my ticket after the park closed actually (had to get one last ride on Gringotts!). I didn't realize at the time that they gave merchandise discounts or I would have done it sooner. Whoops.
