Upgrading tickets

Sorry if this has been asked before, can't find it. We have 1 day MYW passes and would like to up them to 3 day MYW no expire, hoppers when we check in next week. If we only use 2 days of the 3 day, next trip can we upgrade the same tickets to a 10 day? Then at the beginning of that 2nd trip we would have 8 days left instead of a 1 day. I know I have read that you can upgrade tix as long as there are days left, would they let me up them 2x? Trying to get the most out of my 1day tickets from free dining. I want to 'invest' a little in my next trip

First, let's get the Disney terminology straight. Upgrading is the act of applying the entire purchase price of one MYW ticket - unused or first used within the 14 day window - towards the price of another higher priced ticket.
Applying the dollar value of unused park admissions is a completely different thing and it happens when you are past that 14 day window and have previously used the ticket.

Once you do an upgrade on a ticket, it cannot be upgraded again. It can have the dollar value of the unused admissions applied towards the purchase of another new, higher priced ticket.

In your case, you would be able to upgrade the 1 day to a 3 day non expiration with no problem. In your subsequent visit, you would only be able to apply the dollar value of the unused admissions on the 3 day towards the price of the new 10 day. Your 10 day will have to be non expiration as you must get equal or greater options on the new one that your old used one had. You could not use it towards a 10 day expiration ticket when you already used the old one as a non expiration ticket.

Consider going all the way -- upgrading the 1 day ticket to 10 day non-expiring with hopping. Do this before using the ticket, or on the day the ticket is used.

Non-expiring tickets work out very well when they have sufficient days left to completely cover a second vacation.
