Upgrading tickets

Is it possible to upgrade a 3 day one-park-per-day ticket to a 5 day park-hopper ticket either when the ticket is partially used, or when it has had it's last use that day or even the day before?

You can upgrade a ticket at any point while it is still an active/valid ticket. You can upgrade on the last day when the ticket is valid, but not after that. So on a three-day ticket, you can upgrade on the first, second, or third day of use if you wanted. You just have to do the upgrade by the end of the operating day on the third day of use or whenever the ticket expires, whichever comes first.

Is it any more expensive to do it that way rather than buy the 5 day ticket at the start?

I'll add a caveat. You will lose any discount you paid for the ticket you are upgrading. DL doesn't 'bridge' tickets at upgrade. There have been some occasions of Pixie Dust, but don't count on it!

Also, if you're upgrading more than one ticket on the last day, I was asked to produce the other people who were upgrading when I upgraded to APs from 5-day PHs. The ticket CM wanted to make sure that our last day wasn't completely over and that we hadn't fully left, making our tickets technically "expired."

This will just be for my husband. The kids and I have 10 day park hoppers (for 8 days) but my husband plans to do other things and feels that 3 days will be enough for him to meet us in the parks at night for dinner and a couple of rides. He's possibly right, but I'm worried he'll get sick of sitting in the hotel room alone at night since the boys and I won't leave the parks until we're pushed out the gate! Normally our family holidays are very much about togetherness. So we'll do it his way and upgrade if necessary.

If you have 10 day hoppers, then you must be coming from outside the US. I assume the deal is the same for tickets bought outside the US, but to be sure I'd contact DL directly. If calling isn't practical, I'd email them.

If they're bought using foreign currency, I don't know how Disney figures the exchange rate on the original purchase vs the upgrade price in US dollars.

Or maybe I'm overthinking it!

Actually you do not lose any discount. This Oct I upgraded my 5 ph that I got through lmtclub to an AP - price was bridged. Did not even have to use it first (like you have to do at WDW). DD and DH upgraded at a different date and it also bridged :yay:.

DD and DH upgraded their tickets on our last night - we had stayed until DCA closed, made it a quarter of the way to our hotel, turned around, asked at the GC front desk to upgrade, were told to go to the booths, and battled the crowds at DtD. DL did have the Halloween party that night but the park was officially closed. You just have to get there before ticket booths close - we were the second to last group in line that they allowed. CMs had to turn people away - and they did even when ppl were telling them they just needed to get tickets (yeah like everybody else ;)). I think they close the booths 45 minutes after parks close.

Wow, that's GREAT! We have 2 days in late December and are thinking we might get there early enough for a third day. Hopefully the bridging isn't just for upgrading to APs. If they bridge the difference between the 2 and 3 day hopper it'll save us enough for a nice dinner!

We've only purchased the 10 days passes so far (in Australia) and we thought we'd just get DH's tickets when we get there, so no discount on that one to lose!
