Initially we were only going to do one day at universal/IOA but since looking at these boards i am sorely tempted to spend 1 night at one of the onsite hotels (do i or dont i!) it would be easy just to take an overnight bag from our hotel at WDW wouldnt it!!! BUT we only purchased 1 day 2 park tickets, can we upgrade these to 2 day ones or are we going to have to get seperate tickets

You can pay the difference and upgrade at the ticket window. You shouldn't have any problems.

if you bought the one day 2 park tickets on line, you can exchange them now in case there is a rate increase by the time you go to the park.

i don't know what you paid for your tickets, but you could get the 7 day, 2 park tickets for under $100 at the present time.

you stay on site for one night at uo and get 2 full days of fotl.
check in one night, get the free fotl that day.
check out the next day and use one day of that 7 day pass again and still get that check out day with fotl.

then go back to disney that night when the park at uo closes and you still have your room there to continue that park activities.

so you have 5 days left on your 7 day pass, so what. you have already received your monies worth on the 2 days you have used on it w/ park hopping.

isn't the pound at a better rate now for the dollar?
you might come out ahead if you do the exchange soon.

if you bought on line, you call and tell them the confirmation number of that one day 2 park ticket sell.
you upgrade and pay the difference.

they void out the first tickets you have and send you the 7 day pass, or kiosk pick up for the pass.

i have done that type of transaction before in buying tickets.

if you wait until you arrive, the ticket prices might have increased by then.
that is why i suggest plan on it now.

Yes the pound rate is still very good but its started to drop steadily now so i guess you are righ about starting planning now. My only concern is the practicalities i.e. luggage, money etc. I dont particularly want to leave all our holiday money at our other hotel when we wont be there, but then i dont want to trek it round universal either! How safe is it to leave with front of desk if room isnt ready first thing in morning?

anything you leave at the front desk they will put in the safe and give you a claim ticket.

the luggage is secure in the area where they store it.
you also get a claim ticket for that.

i have given the front desk things before to hold when i don't want to leave it in my suitcase. i know, it is safe but i'm from the old school and don't chance it.

you can also leave money in an envelope at the disney hotel so when you come to uo for the night, it would be safe over there.

last year i left money in the safe at all star sports as i had a bad lock on my safe key in my room.

they kept my money and travelors checks at the safe in the disney hotel until my room safe was fixed.

i had to sign papers twice each time i took anything out of it.
only took me about 15 minutes but it was a piece of mind.

you can leave money at disney safe thru the front desk and come to uo.
you can also leave an envelope of money at uo front desk for the safe also until your room is ready.
